Lively monuments and festivals

Amidst the modern pace of life, ancient villages, folk festivals, customs and cultural heritages here are still respected, preserved and promoted by the community, becoming an important resource contributing to local socio -economic development.

Le Chan Ward has an area of over 5.6 km² with a population of over 160,000 people, making it the most populous administrative unit in Hai Phong city. Although there are no major economic or political centers, this place is the "cradle" that preserves many precious cultural values. Nghe Temple, An Bien Communal House, Hang Kenh Communal House, Nam Hai Pagoda, Ven Pagoda, Pho Chieu Pagoda... are structures that bear the mark of time, closely associated with the religious and spiritual life of the people.

In particular, the Le Chan Female General Traditional Festival has been recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage, becoming an important highlight in the journey to preserve the identity of the land. Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, 72 years old, in Cat Dai street, Le Chan ward shared: "Since I was a child, I have participated in the Le Chan Female General Festival, from the Cao Nieu ceremony to the procession, offering daffodils... Every year on this occasion, people eagerly return to the communal house and pagoda."

The festival is not only a religious activity but also an occasion for the elderly to teach their children and grandchildren to be grateful to their ancestors and understand more about the nation's origins.

Not only a place to preserve historical memories, the relics in Le Chan ward are being restored, promoted, and connected with contemporary life by the community and local authorities.

In recent years, Le Chan ward has implemented many new ways to make traditional culture not only "live" in memory but also become a spiritual and material product contributing to the common development. The night tour "Hang Kenh Sacred Mark" is a typical example. In the more than 300-year-old space of Hang Kenh communal house, modern digital technology combined with folk performing arts and traditional rituals bring visitors a unique experience. Along with that are activities of teachers giving calligraphy, printing Dong Ho paintings, experiencing folk cuisine... creating a lively and attractive cultural space.

Nguyen Thi Mai, a student at Hai Phong University, said: I once participated in the night tour "The Sacred Mark of Hang Kenh" and it was really impressive. The traditional rituals were recreated with modern lighting and sound technology, making young people like us feel closer and more receptive. The important thing is that through it, we understand and are more proud of our homeland.

Along with cultural tourism, the ward also focuses on training and teaching heritage to the younger generation. The Dong Ca Tru and An Bien Ca Tru clubs attract hundreds of students. Every month, the children join the artists in singing at An Bien communal house, a way to "bring to life" the heritage in daily life.

Development resources

Not only having spiritual significance, festivals and traditional cultural activities also become an occasion to unite the community, creating new vitality for economic and social life. The annual Le Chan female general festival attracts tens of thousands of people and tourists to participate, promoting the development of commercial services, cuisine, and souvenirs. Local products such as nem chua, rice paper, fresh seafood, etc. are also widely promoted on this occasion.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Head of the Department of Culture and Society of Le Chan Ward emphasized: "We identify that preserving and promoting traditional cultural values is to create endogenous resources for development. Culture is the spiritual root, but at the same time can also become a tourism product, contributing to economic development and improving people's lives."

In the coming time, the ward will continue to focus on planning associated with tourism exploitation, applying digital technology, and mobilizing social resources so that heritage truly becomes a driving force for sustainable development.

Preserving and promoting cultural values is not only the responsibility of the State or local authorities, but also the responsibility of each citizen. Everyone, from the elderly to the young, can contribute by participating in festivals, teaching children, or simply preserving cultural life in the community.

From ancient villages, sacred relics and traditional festivals, Le Chan has proven that cultural identity is not only a “memory” but also a “soft power” for development. When the community joins hands to preserve and promote, village culture will continue to shine, becoming the pride of the people here, while contributing to the sustainable development of Hai Phong in the integration period.
