Cho Lon Ward was formed on the basis of merging 4 wards including 11, 12, 13, 14 of the old District 5. The ward has an area of 1.67 km2 with a population of 85,066 people. 50 years of Sinh Ky chicken curry
For decades, Sinh Ky chicken curry restaurant of Mr. Tran Quoc Uy (56 years old) has been a familiar place for many diners that few residents in Cho Lon area in particular and Ho Chi Minh City in general do not know.

Mr. Uy confirmed that the first person to open this restaurant was his father - Mr. Tran Tieu Sanh. Mr. Sanh was from Guangdong, came to Saigon long before 1975 and worked for a Chinese newspaper in Saigon, also on the street selling this restaurant - Trieu Quang Phuc.
With 7 children, Mr. Sanh's salary as a journalist and his wife's job as a tailor were not enough to cover the expenses, so the couple thought of another way to make a living to support the family. At that time, he decided to open Sinh Ky restaurant to sell chicken curry, even though this is not a traditional Chinese dish.
The blood in the curry bowl makes many diners fascinated.

Just like that, this curry shop has supported Mr. Uy’s entire family for nearly half a century. More than 10 years ago, Mr. Sanh passed away at the age of over 90. Many years ago, Mr. Sanh’s wife also passed away at the age of 90 due to Covid-19. He and his family members continue to maintain the family’s traditional restaurant.
"Rich people's noodle soup" near Cho Lon post office
With the cheapest price of 100,000 VND/bowl, a Chinese noodle shop with more than 50 years of experience in Ho Chi Minh City still attracts customers thanks to its unique grouper noodle dish. This is a restaurant that has been passed down through 3 generations of Mr. Tran Vinh Thanh's family (48 years old), located next to Cho Lon Post Office (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City). With each bowl of noodle soup priced from 100,000 - 150,000 VND, or more depending on demand, customers still jokingly call this "rich people's noodle soup".
Mr. Thanh said that his family's restaurant has been passed down through three generations, from his grandparents. The restaurant opened before 1975, and before that, it also sold many types of drinks in addition to typical, traditional Chinese dishes.

"I started helping out when I was in my 20s. At that time, my mother sold with my siblings. In 2021, my mother passed away due to old age and poor health. My family has 7 siblings, many of whom I inherited with them," the owner shared. Although the price is not cheap, the shop has been crowded with customers over the years because the quality is worth the price.

Dan Ich Fish Hotpot Restaurant on Chau Van Liem Street is a favorite culinary destination for many people. The restaurant has existed in Cho Lon for nearly 50 years. The unique feature is that the restaurant still preserves the old style of hotpot, which is an aluminum pot with a charcoal burner located right in the middle of the pot.
To cook this unique hot pot, people put hot coals in the chimney in the middle of the pot, blow wind from below to make the coals burn red, creating heat to cook the hot pot. The hot pot broth of the restaurant is also quite special, besides the sweetness of the fish, there is also the sweet aroma of many other flavors such as squid, pork skin, shrimp, pickled cabbage... blending to create a rich flavor that captivates the user.
