The President's wife and the German President's wife enjoy water puppetry

On January 23, at Thang Long Water Puppetry Theater,President Vo Van Thuong's wife, Mrs. Phan Thi Thanh Tam, and German President's wife, Mrs. Elke Büdenbender, enjoyed a water puppet show.
On the afternoon of January 23, within the framework of the official visit to Vietnam of the German President, the wife of President Vo Van Thuong, Mrs. Phan Thi Thanh Tam and the wife of the German President, Mrs. Elke Büdenbender enjoyed a water puppet show at the Thang Long Water Puppetry Theater (Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi ).
The two ladies enjoyed the plays "Uncle Teu", "Festival Flag Playing", "Dragon Dance", "Buffalo Herder Playing the Flute", " Agriculture and Plowing", "Fairy Dance" and "Four Spirits Dance".
Traditional puppetry is a folk art closely associated with the spiritual life of the Vietnamese people, born in the Red River Delta, Northern Vietnam. This is a land with a hot and humid climate, many rivers and almost every village has ponds and lakes that will become water puppet theaters.
This explains why the scenery on the water puppet stage is all about the countryside, fields, bamboo trees and the performances are closely related to the activities of Vietnamese villages such as fishing, rice planting...
Both Ladies expressed special impressions of the performances and the talent of the artists - who soaked in water for hours to control the puppets.
The two ladies wish the artists will always be passionate about their profession to preserve the unique identity of Vietnamese water puppetry.
The wife of the German President, Mrs. Elke Büdenbender, shook hands and sent her best wishes to the artists performing in the program.
To better understand the art of water puppetry and the work of the artists, the two Ladies visited behind the scenes and talked with the artists, officers and staff of Thang Long Water Puppetry Theater.
Representatives of Thang Long Puppetry Theater presented water puppets to the two Ladies.
The two ladies took souvenir photos with staff and artists.
Madam Phan Thi Thanh Tam hopes that, through the performances, Madam Elke Büdenbender will better understand the art form imbued with the cultural identity of Northern Vietnam.
