At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son expressed his delight at the strong development of bilateral relations, especially after the two countries upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the visit to Vietnam by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon (February 2025).
The two sides agreed to focus on strengthening the implementation of agreements and results achieved during the visit, especially urgently developing an Action Program to implement the newly upgraded Partnership framework.
Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that New Zealand further open its market to each other's agricultural products, aiming to diversify the supply chain, strive to achieve bilateral trade turnover of 3 billion USD by 2026 and double two-way investment; continue to provide ODA to Vietnam; and strengtheneducational cooperation.

New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters welcomed Vietnam as the coordinator of ASEAN-New Zealand relations and hoped that both sides would further promote ASEAN-New Zealand relations, towards establishing the ASEAN-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework in the coming time.
The two sides also discussed enhancing coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums and international organizations, including supporting Vietnam's candidacy for important United Nations agencies, enhancing New Zealand's cooperation with Mekong sub-regional mechanisms and Vietnam's cooperation with Pacific island countries./.
