Báo Nhân dânBáo Nhân dân18/10/2024

The back pain lasted for many years and became worse in the last 4 months, along with joint pain due to gout, making it difficult for Mr. NMT to move and do daily activities. Realizing that his condition was getting more and more serious, he decided to go to the Neurosurgery Department of Xuyen A Long An General Hospital for examination and treatment.

Through clinical examination and MRI results, the doctor concluded that the patient had L3, L4 spondylolisthesis causing severe spinal compression. After a thorough consultation, the doctors of the Department of Neurosurgery decided to perform spinal fixation surgery for the patient using percutaneous screwing through the pedicle. This is considered a commonly used method and highly effective in treating lumbar spondylolisthesis.

The spinal surgery performed by specialist I Nguyen The Thuan, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, and the surgical team was successful. “Just one day after the successful surgery, the patient began to practice sitting and walking, moving normally, no longer feeling back pain or numbness in the legs, these are signs of very good recovery,” Dr. Thuan shared.

Talking about this surgical method, the doctor said that the technique of screwing the vertebral pedicle through the skin under the guidance of the C-arm machine is a modern surgical method, widely applied in the treatment of spinal trauma. The highlight of this technique is that it is less invasive, does not require expansion and dissection of the fascia into the vertebrae like traditional methods, thereby minimizing damage to the fascia, reducing blood loss, bringing high treatment efficiency, shortening the hospital stay compared to traditional open surgery.

Specialist Doctor I Nguyen The Thuan recommends that people who regularly do heavy work, lifting, etc. must always pay attention to the correct posture when working, limit carrying too heavy, too large compared to the body's proportion to avoid pain, scoliosis, and spinal collapse. When symptoms such as: back pain, numbness in limbs, difficulty standing and sitting appear, you must quickly go to reputable medical facilities for examination, testing and appropriate treatment advice, to prevent complications.
