Promoting the potential of rural industries

Developing rural industries is one of the important directions contributing to the comprehensive and sustainable development of Phu Tho province's rural areas. In the context of increasingly deep economic integration, the requirement is that the province's rural industries need to be developed in a modern and effective direction, associated with environmental protection and meeting increasingly high market standards.

Promoting the potential of rural industries

The wood processing industry has developed, creating jobs and bringing stable income to the people of Thanh Son commune.

Rural industries in the province are quite diverse, operating in the following fields: Processing and preserving agricultural, forestry and aquatic products; handicraft production; processing and handling raw materials for rural production; production and trading of ornamental plants; services for production and rural life. The main forms of production are individual households producing small-scale handicrafts, cooperatives, cooperative groups, and private enterprises.

The province has about 120,000 workers directly involved in production in craft villages and rural industrial establishments. Most of them are local workers with experience and traditional skills accumulated over many generations. There are more than 100 craft villages operating in the province, not only bringing economic value but also contributing to preserving and spreading local cultural identity. Diverse natural conditions and abundant local raw materials are also advantages for developing industries.

In recent times, industries and localities have clearly identified advantageous industries to prioritize investment and development, meeting the requirements of commodity production associated with consumer markets, developing into OCOP products. Many models have initially effectively linked the development of craft villages and industries with brand building, creating added value and opportunities for economic restructuring on the spot. Many typical local products are gradually building their brands such as: Dinh village wine (Yen Thuy commune), Chieng Chau brocade weaving (Mai Ha commune), Da Hen tea (Dong Luong commune), Tien Du fine art wooden furniture (Chi Dam commune), Thanh Lang civil woodwork (Xuan Lang commune)...

In addition to traditional occupations, many households and production facilities have developed new occupations that are suitable for practical conditions and modern consumption trends such as manufacturing wooden furniture, processing clean food, growing and processing medicinal herbs, processing garments, packaging, etc. These models not only make good use of local raw materials and labor but also expand development space for rural areas.

Van Du carpentry village (Chi Dam commune) currently has about 70 households working in the craft, with an average revenue of 300 billion VND/year. The craft village plays an important role in developing the local rural economy. Mr. Nguyen Trong Chien - Head of the craft village said: "The craft households have invested in modern machinery and equipment for production, currently accounting for over 50% of the stages in the production process. Carpentry brings the main income to the villagers and creates jobs for about 500 workers. The investment in machinery helps the craft village's products to be more competitive, reduce costs, and improve quality."

However, in addition to the achieved results, the development of rural industries in the province still faces some difficulties and limitations. Production and business establishments are mainly small-scale households, lacking linkages, low efficiency, and have not fully exploited their potential and advantages. Products are not really diverse, competitiveness is low, and have not met the needs and tastes of consumers, especially for handicraft products...

In the coming time, to develop sustainable rural industries, local authorities will strengthen propaganda and raise people's awareness of preserving and developing traditional occupations. Along with that is the reorganization of production towards efficiency, maximizing the exploitation of resource potential, local advantages and local labor resources. Innovating and replicating effective production organization models, at the same time attracting businesses to invest, playing a core role in the chain linking with farmers will be key factors to help rural industries develop in a systematic and professional manner. In particular, implementing the Strategy for Rural Industry Development to 2030, with a vision to 2045 according to Decision No. 1058/QD-TTg, dated September 14, 2023 of the Prime Minister will be an important basis for rural industries to develop sustainably and integrate multi-values.
