Mr. Ngo Kien Trung, Head of Bat Xat Nature Reserve Management Board, said: The newly discovered Fansipan spruce population is located deep in the old forest, at an altitude of about 2,800 meters above sea level, distributed over an area of about 100 hectares, with a very high tree density.

Notably, in this population there are many ancient Fansipan spruce trees hundreds of years old, some reaching a diameter of up to 1 meter and a height of 20 to 40 meters. There are also smaller spruce trees growing.

Fansipan spruce is a rare and precious tree species, endemic to the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, previously only found in Hoang Lien National Park. Since 1996, Fansipan spruce has been included in the Vietnam Red Book. In 2014, this tree species was recognized as a Vietnam Heritage Tree and is considered a "national treasure".

The discovery of such a large population of Fansipan spruce trees in Bat Xat Nature Reserve is considered to be of great significance for biodiversity conservation, preserving rare plant genetic resources as well as serving scientific research, education and sustainable development of forest resources.

Currently, the Bat Xat Nature Reserve Management Board is implementing measures to demarcate, monitor and coordinate with specialized agencies to conduct further research on the current status and conservation potential of this tree species.
