Associate Professor Dr. Pham Thu Huong shares her aspiration to make Foreign Trade University a leading university in Asia.

On the morning of July 2, Foreign Trade University held a ceremony to announce the decision of the Minister of Education and Training on recognizing Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thu Huong as the school's Principal for the 2020-2025 term, starting from July 1.

Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Thu Huong said she was very moved and honored to be given the responsibility of school principal.

Ms. Huong said that for her, coming to Foreign Trade University and being attached to this school is a fate and on the journey of maturity, she has received a lot of affection from generations of leaders, teachers, friends and colleagues. Ms. Huong is a former student of Course 34, attached to Foreign Trade University for 30 years now.

“The roughness in personality, lack of knowledge and skills, through the guidance and companionship of teachers, friends and colleagues, have been gradually polished to create me who I am today, better than I was yesterday,” Ms. Huong shared.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thu Huong, new Principal of Foreign Trade University, spoke at the ceremony.

Ms. Huong shared that her love and commitment toeducation was passed down from her parents on both sides of the family, teachers from Hanoi National University, University of Science and Technology and University of Commerce. “More importantly, I also had many opportunities to learn from other schools in my own extended family. I could not have fulfilled my duties as a leader, a wife and a mother without the understanding and support of my husband and my children. I would also like to sincerely thank my brothers, sisters, friends and younger siblings, who always had to listen to and endure my worst but still believed in my best, always encouraged and accompanied me so that I could do my roles well,” Ms. Huong said.

According to Ms. Huong, in the context of constant innovation, many challenges from policies, technology, from unpredictable fluctuations in the world , increasingly fierce competition in the field of education, requiring a breakthrough in thinking, in approach, in methods and actions. “With the responsibility of the principal, I commit to running the organization according to the principle of 'stability and efficiency', promoting democracy, strengthening internal solidarity, ensuring close and effective coordination in leadership, gradually forming a culture of 'frankness, sharing and companionship' in implementing the development strategy, while closely following the motto of 'differentiation to lead' to promote a culture of innovation and creativity", Ms. Huong said.

The new principal said that together with the school community, he will be determined to realize the aspiration of making Foreign Trade University one of the leading universities in Asia, a place that respects academic freedom, encourages creative research, develops a training model associated with promoting thinking and the ability to master the context, and overcomes prejudices about educational values.
