As the opening day of the new school year 2025-2026 is approaching, many schools in Ho Chi Minh City have sent out touching and humane announcements wishing to "exchange" flower baskets into scholarships, school supplies, and books to give to disadvantaged students.
Mr. Le Hong Thai, Principal of Phan Van Tri Primary School (Cau Ong Lanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) has just sent an emotional open letter to parents, donors and businesses... on the occasion of the upcoming new school year opening day.
The open letter reads:
" Every time a new school year begins, the school is always honored to receive affection and beautiful flower baskets from agencies, units, parents and close friends. This is a valuable source of encouragement for us teachers and students. However, flowers are only beautiful for a moment and then quickly become a waste.
Therefore, the school respectfully hopes that instead of flowers, you will send more practical and meaningful gifts such as notebooks, school supplies, scholarships for disadvantaged students or funds to repair and equip sports equipment. These contributions will become practical resources, helping students to be more motivated to study, improve their health, develop their talents and confidently participate in useful playgrounds."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc, Principal of Duong Van Thi High School (Thu Duc City) also just sent a letter to parents, partners, and donors... "instead of giving flowers to congratulate the opening ceremony, it will be replaced by scholarships for students".
The principal of Duong Van Thi High School said that after one day of appeal, the school received 25 million VND. "So on the opening day, at least 25 students will feel secure going to school, and 25 families will have less anxiety at the beginning of the year. The school is grateful to the philanthropists, parents, friends, partners, and teachers of Duong Van Thi High School who have always loved, accompanied, and shared with students who still have many difficulties, helping them go to school" - Ms. Truc shared.
Previously, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City issued a directive on the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 school year. Accordingly, the opening ceremony will be held at the same time from 8:00 to 9:30 on September 5, 2025 at educational institutions in the city.
The Department of Education and Training requires schools not to mobilize students before 7:00 a.m. on the opening day.
