The Manchester club have brought 27 players (including three goalkeepers) to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup™ in the United States, but they have at least four or five other first-team players at home, notably Jack Grealish, Kalvin Phillips and Kyle Walker.
Guardiola admitted: “We have a big squad, too many players, so we cannot use all 26 or 27 players this season because there will be many players who will not play, and step by step, maybe some players will leave.”
Pep's comments sent a clear message: Manchester City will do everything they can to push Jack Grealish, Kalvin Phillips and Kyle Walker out of the team. Even Ilkay Gundogan, who is being linked with Galatasaray, or Mateo Kovacic could leave if the right offer comes in.
Guardiola said earlier this year that he needed a bigger squad after Manchester City's injury crisis last season. However, after bringing in eight new signings since January, Pep wants to trim his squad to 24-25 players.
