RT reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the escalating situation in the Middle East following Israel's airstrike on Iran on June 13.
"President Putin expressed condolences to the Government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran over the damage and casualties caused by Israeli airstrikes," the Kremlin press service said in a statement on June 13.

President Putin also "condemned Israel's actions as violations of the UN Charter and international law." At the same time, the Russian leader expressed his readiness to mediate and "continue to contribute to the de-escalation of the conflict between Iran and Israel."
President Putin stressed the importance of "returning to the negotiating process and resolving all issues related to Iran's nuclear program only through political and diplomatic means."
"The ongoing escalation could have the most catastrophic consequences for the entire region," the Kremlin chief warned.

Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran on June 13, targeting the country's nuclear facilities and many other military facilities. The airstrikes killed many senior Iranian military officials and nuclear scientists. Iran then responded with a barrage of missiles targeting Tel Aviv.
