Medvedev: The West is making money from the Ukraine conflict

VnExpressVnExpress17/08/2023

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Medvedev accused the West of not caring about a peaceful solution in Ukraine, only wanting to make money from the conflict.

"The fact that the West is speculating that the time is ripe to sit down at the negotiating table and start peace talks shows how cunning they are. They do not want this, but only want military operations to continue to make money," Deputy Chairman of Russia's Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said on August 16.

Mr Medvedev said Russian troops had been “very successful” in destroying Western-supplied military equipment in Ukraine, adding that the losses on the battlefield had led to repeated calls by the West to return to the negotiating table to find a peaceful solution to the conflict.

"But remember this is only part of the story, the rest is the US and European defense industry that is making money from the conflict. They make huge profits by supplying their equipment to Ukraine," he explained.

The deputy head of Russia's Security Council said last month that the conflict in Ukraine could end within days if the West stopped supplying arms to Kiev. Mr Medvedev has frequently made tough comments on the Ukraine conflict and has repeatedly warned of the possibility that Russia might be forced to use nuclear weapons.

Mr Medvedev also warned that World War III was getting closer as NATO increased its military support for Ukraine. He also said that the conflict in Ukraine could last forever, preventing the country from becoming a NATO member, as the military alliance has a policy of not admitting countries in conflict.
