Flood water begins to flow into Dong Thap Muoi

On July 12, the Southern Institute of Water Resources Planning said that the total flow on the Mekong River to the Mekong Delta from July to August 2025 is about 10-15% higher than the average of many years.

Accordingly, the water level of the Mekong River upstream fluctuates with the tide, gradually rising and peaking around October and at alert level 1. This year's floods in the Mekong Delta are likely to be small floods. The flood level is low and fluctuates strongly with the tide from mid-July, increasing in the second half of July to mid-August and reaching the flood peak.

In localities in the Dong Thap Muoi region (Tay Ninh), from the beginning of July until now, floods have begun to flow but are still very low, the average water level has increased by 1-2cm per day/night in fields in localities such as Tan Hung, Vinh Hung, Tan Thanh communes, Tay Ninh province. At Hong Ngu canal, the water level measured in Tan Hung commune is 98cm, 26cm higher than the same period in 2024. At Duong Van Duong canal, Thanh Hoa commune, the water level has also begun to increase by about 50cm. According to the functional sector of Tay Ninh province, there are currently more than 186,500 hectares of summer-autumn rice area in 2025 in localities in the Dong Thap Muoi region that are entering the harvest stage at risk of being affected, especially rice areas located in low-lying areas that are prone to flooding, people need to proactively reinforce the embankments to avoid damage.

The authorities and functional agencies of localities in the Dong Thap Muoi region have mobilized machinery and equipment to build stone embankments and dikes to prevent floods. At the same time, they urgently repaired and reinforced weak sections of dikes, embankments, and structures at risk of breaking, and operated irrigation works to prevent and combat floods...
