
Over the years, thanks to promoting the advantages of culture, countryside, craft villages, closely linking agricultural economy with service - tourism economy, Hoi An area has had many unique tourism products with strong local characteristics.
Among them, it is necessary to promote agricultural characteristics for tourism, turning farmers into "tourism ambassadors" from their daily work.
At the end of 2024, the Farmers' Association of Cam Thanh commune (now Hoi An Dong ward) launched the Association of Professional Farmers of Basket Boat Tourism in Thanh Dong village with 21 members who are households belonging to Thanh Dong Organic Vegetable and Tourism Cooperative, Dong Gia Organic Vegetable Association and Organic Rice Association.
Mr. Pham Meo - Vice President of Thanh Dong Association of Farmers in the basket boat tourism profession, said: “Based on the strengths of Thanh Dong organic vegetable garden, the association combines the activity of visiting the vegetable garden with the form of experiencing basket boat tourism along Do River. Members will be supported to develop their profession, have the opportunity to access capital sources, increase income and develop sustainable livelihoods”.
With Tra Que vegetable village, tourists are no longer unfamiliar when coming to Hoi An, experiencing the life of farmers here. In 2024, the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) recognized Tra Que vegetable village as "The best tourist village in the world".
Mr. Trang Thanh Hung (a resident of Tra Que village, Hoi An Tay ward) shared: “With the traditional Tra Que vegetable craft village, local people have realized the economic potential when developing production combined with a community tourism model to create new sources of income and improve their lives”.
In July 2024, the An My Farmers' Association (now Hoi An Dong Ward) established the An My Vegetable Village Cooperative with 21 members who are agricultural production households and agricultural support service businesses in the block.
With existing agricultural production activities, using organic agricultural production as the foundation to combine tourism exploitation, gradually creating unique tourism products from agricultural products and agricultural activities.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu (a resident of An My block) said: “An My residents guide tourists to participate in tours to experience farming, experience bailing water, catching fish, planting rice, hoeing, sowing seeds, growing vegetables, etc. After the experience, tourists can prepare rustic dishes from the harvested products. From there, people's lives are increasingly improved, opening up opportunities for sustainable tourism development and bringing long-term benefits to the community.”
