On the morning of September 1, rice prices in the Mekong Delta remained stable, with trading quite quiet. Low arrival volume and slow buying by traders caused the market to generally remain flat compared to the previous session.
Rice price developments
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, the price of exported raw rice remained unchanged compared to yesterday. CL 555 and OM 5451 rice fluctuated from 7,700 - 7,900 VND/kg; OM 380 rice was at 8,200 - 8,300 VND/kg; OM 18 rice remained at 9,600 - 9,700 VND/kg; IR 50404 rice was stable at around 8,500 - 8,600 VND/kg.
In the finished rice segment, OM 380 is being traded at VND 8,800 - 9,000/kg, while IR 50404 is at VND 9,500 - 9,700/kg.
Rice price at the field
In many localities, fresh rice prices remain stable. Specifically, OM 5451 rice fluctuates between 5,900 and 6,000 VND/kg; OM 18 rice is at 6,000 and 6,200 VND/kg; Nang Hoa 9 and Dai Thom 8 both fluctuate between 6,100 and 6,200 VND/kg; IR 50404 remains at 5,700 and 5,800 VND/kg; OM 380 is from 5,700 to 5,900 VND/kg.
Trading activities in An Giang , Can Tho, Dong Thap and Ca Mau are slow. Some warehouses have good selection of goods but the number of new transactions is not yet active.
Retail rice market
Rice prices at traditional markets continue to remain stable. Nang Nhen rice remains the highest at VND28,000/kg, and Huong Lai at VND22,000/kg. Long-grain Thai fragrant rice is commonly priced at VND20,000-22,000/kg; Nang Hoa rice is VND21,000/kg; Jasmine fragrant rice is VND16,000-18,000/kg; and common white rice remains at VND16,000/kg.
Price of glutinous rice and by-products
The glutinous rice segment remained stable: dry IR 4625 at 9,500 - 9,700 VND/kg, fresh glutinous rice at 7,300 - 7,500 VND/kg. By-products also remained unchanged, broken rice OM 5451 at 7,150 - 7,250 VND/kg, dry bran fluctuated at 6,250 - 6,350 VND/kg, rice husk remained at 1,400 - 1,500 VND/kg.
Rice export
Vietnam's rice export prices remain unchanged from yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 5% broken rice is at $389 per ton; 25% broken rice is $368 per ton; and 100% broken rice is $335 per ton.
In the context of fierce competition in the global market, Vietnamese rice prices remain high due to limited supply. However, businesses are advised to closely monitor international trade developments to have timely response solutions.
