At this time, in the early-ripening rice fields in Cam Binh, Dong Tien, Thach Lac, Thien Cam communes... the harvest atmosphere is very urgent. Farmers have proactively gone to the fields from early morning, taking advantage of every hour of sunlight to harvest rice.
Not only during the day, at night, combine harvesters are also mobilized at maximum capacity to speed up the summer-autumn rice harvest for farmers, minimizing damage caused by storm No. 5.
On the shore, people with flashlights wait for the harvester to arrive, carry the bags of harvested rice ashore and transport them home in time to avoid the storm.
In Cam Binh commune, since the afternoon of August 23, local people have mobilized nearly 20 harvesters to the fields, focusing on harvesting the ripe rice. In the fields, the harvesters operate continuously, and people are busy transporting rice home.
Ms. Hoang Thi Kieu (Dong Bau village, Cam Binh commune) said: "My family still has more than 9 sao of rice. If we wait a few more days to harvest, the storm will definitely destroy the rice, and major damage is inevitable. Therefore, my family decided to harvest early, accepting that the rice is not 100% ripe, but it is better to be safe."
Mr. Duong Danh Que (Dong Bau village) said: “Not only my family, but the whole village rushed to the fields to harvest rice to avoid the storm. Thanks to 3 harvesters working at the same time, people harvested rice and supported each other in transporting it. Everyone worked urgently with the hope of bringing the rice home before the storm hit.”
According to the People's Committee of Cam Binh commune, this summer-autumn crop, the locality produced nearly 1,500 hectares of rice, and so far about 30% of the rice area has ripened. Before the forecast of storm No. 5, the locality directed the villages to mobilize maximum harvesters and human resources to focus on harvesting the ripe rice area. Mr. Nguyen Duy Ngan - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Cam Binh commune said: "Currently, the whole commune has harvested more than 130 hectares of rice. The commune has asked agricultural officials to regularly monitor the fields and promptly inform people about weather developments. We prioritize supporting single-parent households and policy families in harvesting to ensure progress and preserve productivity." Not only in Cam Binh commune, but also in the fields of Thien Cam commune, farmers are rushing to harvest rice before storm No. 5 makes landfall. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thinh (Dong Cao village, Thien Cam commune) shared: "My family grows 9 sao of rice, and has harvested 3 sao. The storm is coming, so we have to hurry up and finish harvesting the rice as soon as possible to bring it home in time to avoid the rain. If unfortunately there is flooding, the whole crop will be lost."
Along with the urgent atmosphere in the fields, the rice transport job at this time also becomes busier.
According to the Ha Tinh Department of Crop Production and Livestock, in the 2025 summer-autumn crop, the whole province planted more than 45,170 hectares of rice. To date, localities have harvested nearly 400 hectares, most concentrated in Cam Binh commune, followed by Thien Cam commune, Dong Tien commune and Ha Huy Tap ward. The ripe rice areas are mainly varieties with a growing period of less than 100 days such as: BT09, HG12, TBR97, Xuan Mai... Mr. Phan Van Huan - Head of the Cultivation Department (Ha Tinh Department of Cultivation and Livestock) said : "We have asked localities to focus on harvesting, especially in areas of ripe rice. At the same time, there is a plan to protect unharvested rice areas to preserve the end-of-season yield and minimize damage caused by storm No. 5." Proactively harvesting rice early helps Ha Tinh farmers minimize damage caused by storm No. 5, while protecting the fruits of their labor for the entire season and ensuring income for their families.
Due to the influence of storm No. 5, from noon and afternoon of August 24, the sea area of Ha Tinh has winds gradually increasing to level 6 - 8, then increasing to level 9 - 10, the area near the storm's center has winds of level 11 - 13, gusting to level 15.
From the night of August 24 to August 26, Ha Tinh province will have heavy rain, some places will have very heavy rain. Total rainfall in the areas is commonly 150 - 300mm, some places over 500mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain with a flow of 200mm in 3 hours.
In the face of heavy rain forecasts, experts recommend that people focus on mobilizing maximum manpower and equipment to quickly harvest the ripe summer-autumn rice area with the motto "green house is better than ripe field"; drain water in the fields, dredge canals, clear the flow, especially in areas that are often blocked by water hyacinth to ensure drainage during heavy rains, limiting flooding. When there is a flooding incident, it is necessary to mobilize maximum machinery and manpower to focus on timely drainage for the flooded rice area.
