Irrigation works in the highlands help people grow rice all year round.
Life changes
Leisurely returning from his field visit in the early morning, Mr. Chau Thi, a resident of An Cu commune , seemed satisfied and confident that he would have a bumper crop because the rice plants were bent and waiting to be harvested. Currently, the price of rice fluctuates from 6,300 - 6,500 VND/kg, so he is looking forward to the harvest season every day. According to him, thanks to the attention and care of the local government over the years, the lives of the Khmer people here are better than before.
“In the past, people here only grew one crop of summer rice per year. Since the 3/2 pumping station was built, many people grow two or three crops per year, so their lives have improved a lot. The Khmer people are very grateful to the State for creating conditions for us to improve our lives,” said Mr. Chau Thi.
With the attention of all levels and sectors, new and spacious asphalt roads pass through the villages and hamlets. A pair of oxen of love is given to poor households to earn a living. Warm solidarity houses are supported by Party committees, authorities at all levels and philanthropists, helping the Khmer people to truly settle down in the An Cu land.
“The government creates conditions for Khmer people to have water to grow rice all year round, and to teach women a trade to have more income to take care of their families. Young people are supported and introduced to work as workers in and outside the province, so their lives are very stable. Many families have been able to build new houses and buy all kinds of amenities thanks to “working for the company”, confided Ms. Neang Rieu, residing in Ba Den hamlet, An Cu commune.
In the story of that Khmer woman, we see the joy and excitement with life today. Coming to An Cu on the occasions of Chol Chnam Thmay, Sene Dolta, we will see the atmosphere of change in the village and the village. Mrs. Neang Rieu affirmed that thanks to the improved economic life, the Khmer people's holidays and festivals are becoming more and more joyful. The newly built pagodas with beautiful architecture clearly reflect the rise of the Khmer people in both material and spiritual aspects.
Realizing potential
Formed on the basis of merging the three communes of An Cu, Vinh Trung, and Van Giao in the past, An Cu commune now takes advantage of existing conditions, overcomes difficulties to strive to rise. Regarding traffic infrastructure, the commune has important routes passing through such as provincial road 948, provincial road 949, and rural road 11, creating a foundation for local socio-economic development. When these projects are completed, it will help people travel and transport goods more conveniently. This is also an important factor for businesses to invest, develop production, and create jobs for local workers.
Head of the Department of Culture and Society of An Cu Commune, Nguyen Thanh Tuyen, informed that with the current development of services and tourism, it also creates a driving force for the local socio-economy. “The Department will advise the Commune People's Committee to mobilize people to develop small-scale trading and trading in Bay Nui specialties along the main traffic routes to serve tourists. An Cu does not have fertile land, but it has beautiful scenery, so it can develop specific types of eco-tourism. In fact, tourists really like eco-tourism, so local people can take advantage of this,” Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuyen analyzed.
In addition, Mr. Tuyen proposed the idea of developing cultural tourism spots, combined with traditional art performances and typical Khmer culinary activities. If this potential is developed, it will help improve the lives of people, especially the Khmer people in the locality. Regarding agricultural production activities, the locality continues to exploit irrigation works to serve people's production. When the Bay Nui highland irrigation works cluster is completed, it will help people in An Cu commune have more conditions for production during the dry season, contributing to relieving the "thirst" of the land once called the "white desert".
In the coming time, the People's Committee of An Cu commune will continue to effectively implement 3 national target programs on new rural construction, sustainable poverty reduction, socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas; ensure good implementation of social security work, care for poor households, continue to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses... to motivate people to join hands in building the increasingly innovative homeland of An Cu.
