Suspect in Pentagon document leak case indicted

Each count of illegally retaining and disseminating defense information carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, the department added.

Teixeira is a suspect in the most serious leak of US security documents in more than a decade, since WikiLeaks in 2010.

The suspect was arrested in April after allegedly posting classified documents on the messaging app Discord, raising concerns about how a low-ranking employee could have unfettered access to highly classified military secrets. Two commanders in the suspect’s unit were later suspended.

The leaked documents contained classified information about US allies and adversaries, as well as Ukraine's air defense system and Israel's Mossad spy agency. US President Joe Biden has ordered an investigation into how the suspect had access to the sensitive information.
