Traditional Craft Making Van Cu Vermicelli Becomes Cultural Heritage

On December 11, Mr. Tran Huu Thuy Giang, Chief of Office of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province, said that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just issued Decisions to announce the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage for the Hue Nam Palace Traditional Festival and the Traditional Craft of Making Van Cu Vermicelli.

Accordingly, Decision No. 3981/QD-BVHTTDL dated December 10, 2024, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism included the Hue Nam Temple Traditional Festival (Huong Tho Commune, Hue City) in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Dien Hue Nam Festival is known as a traditional activity with spiritual cultural elements worshiping the Holy Mother Thien YA Na.


The Hue Nam Temple Festival is known as a traditional cultural and spiritual activity to worship the Holy Mother Thien YA Na, held in the third and seventh lunar months every year. The activity is considered colorful and vibrant, attracting a large number of followers of the Mother Goddess worship with tens of thousands of people attending. This is also considered a folk and community cultural festival typical of the ancient capital of Hue.

In Decision No. 3979/QD-BVHTTDL dated December 10, 2024, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism included the traditional craft of making Van Cu vermicelli (Huong Toan commune, Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province) in the List of national intangible cultural heritage.

The traditional craft of producing vermicelli in Van Cu village was formed more than 400 years ago. Over time, the craft of making vermicelli in Van Cu village has affirmed its brand and position in the domestic and foreign consumption markets. Currently, the craft village has attracted more than 100 households to participate in producing vermicelli to supply markets, restaurants, eateries, etc., bringing a stable source of income to the people.
