Phu Tho Education Sector is ready for the new school year

GD&TĐ - On the afternoon of August 18, the Department of Education and Training of Phu Tho held a conference to evaluate the results of the 2024-2025 school year and deploy tasks for the 2025-2026 school year.

Attending and directing the conference were Mr. Nguyen Khac Hieu - Vice Chairman of Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Do Khac Thanh - Principal of Hung Vuong University; leaders and representatives of the Department of Culture and Society of communes and wards and principals of schools under the Department.

New painting with outstanding achievements

After the merger of the three provinces of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Hoa Binh , the educational scale of Phu Tho province is now among the largest in the country. The province currently has 1,957 educational institutions with nearly one million students, ranking third among 34 provinces and cities in terms of school size and staff. The total number of cadres, teachers, and employees is 60,866, but there is still a shortage of about 2,473 positions, especially in specialized subjects and difficult areas.

The rate of solidification of schools reached over 90%, the rate of schools meeting national standards reached 83.06% (preschool 83.72%; primary 94.31%; secondary 78.22%; high school 62.07%). The school system is diverse from public, private to inter-level schools, semi-boarding, boarding, high-quality schools. This is an important foundation for Phu Tho education sector to improve quality, at the same time implementing new requirements of the 2018 General Education Program.

At the preschool level, the whole province has 1,120 facilities with 9,460 groups and classes; 215,680/281,162 children have been mobilized to attend classes, reaching 76.7%; 5-year-old children have attended classes reaching 100%. The quality of health care for children is increasingly being paid attention to. The whole province has 598/708 preschools meeting national standards, corresponding to 84.5%.

Primary education maintains a widespread network, with over 335,000 students in the three provinces before the merger. The rate of schools meeting national standards is high: old Phu Tho 99.6%, Vinh Phuc 84.9%, Hoa Binh 89.5%. However, remote areas still have many separate schools, combined classes and lack of synchronous facilities, especially IT rooms to meet the new program.

At the secondary level, the 10th grade enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year was organized seriously. The province assigned a target of 44,575 students, and the enrollment result reached 43,249 students, equal to 97% of the plan. The rate of entering 10th grade reached 75-77% depending on the locality: the old Phu Tho reached 75.24%; the old Vinh Phuc 75.95%; the old Hoa Binh 77.05%. In terms of quality, at the secondary level, 20.37% of students achieved Good, 33.69% Fair; at the high school level, 29.37% of students achieved Good, demonstrating stability and efforts to maintain the quality of mass education.

Continuing education has affirmed its role in post-secondary education with 33 centers, 705 classes and 27,190 students. In 2025, the high school graduation rate of the Continuing Education system in the province reached 98.14%, many units maintained 100% results. Vocational education has also developed strongly with 51 facilities, training 88,006 students, of which 52,507 graduated. Many students won high prizes in the National Vocational Skills Competition, contributing to enhancing the reputation of vocational training in the province.

In addition, student affairs are focused on many aspects such as: Political education, ideology, ethics, life skills; building a safe and happy school environment; preventing school violence, injuries and social evils. Quality management is promoted, exams are organized seriously, educational quality is assessed, national standard schools are recognized, and diplomas and certificates are strictly managed.

Ready for the new journey

To adapt to the two-tier local government model from July 1, the Phu Tho Department of Education and Training has urgently reviewed and adjusted the names, seals, and management records of schools, and issued guidelines for schools to be more proactive in developing educational plans. The role of commune, ward, and town authorities has been strengthened in coordinating school management, enrollment, mobilizing children to attend classes, and implementing educational policies.

Although the workload of the Department and principals has increased significantly, the two-tier model has initially shown its effectiveness: the apparatus is more compact, the intermediate levels are shortened, and the autonomy and responsibility of educational institutions are enhanced. This is both a challenge and an opportunity for the provincial education sector to affirm its management capacity in the new period.

The scale of education after the merger is among the largest in the country, the quality is stable in general, the spearhead is maintained, many targets are completed and exceeded the plan. In particular, the industry has proactively implemented the 2018 General Education Program, paying attention to moral education and life skills for students, while also doing well in digital transformation, accreditation and building national standard schools.

In the context of the local government operating under a two-tier model, the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Tho province requested the Department of Education and Training to closely follow the guidelines and policies to promptly advise the Provincial People's Committee and the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee to issue directives in accordance with the province's reality. Mobilize and effectively use all resources to maintain and increase the rate of schools meeting national standards; prioritize investment in disadvantaged areas and ethnic minority areas. Maintain Phu Tho's education quality in the top 5 nationwide.

Advise the Provincial People's Committee to establish an interdisciplinary working group to review educational facilities. Synchronously deploy solutions to improve the quality of education and training. Effectively implement the motto "Taking students as the center and subject - Teachers as the driving force - School as the support - Family as the fulcrum - Society as the foundation". With the tradition of studiousness, along with the determination of the teaching staff and students, Mr. Nguyen Khac Hieu believes that the Phu Tho Education sector will successfully complete the tasks of the new school year, making practical contributions to the sustainable development of the province.

Promote digital transformation in management and teaching. The industry is building a shared database from preschool to high school and continuing education, deploying electronic grade books, transcripts, and online enrollment. The Thau Duc Scholarship Fund also awarded these 9 students.
