The leaders of the Traffic Police Department ( Ministry of Public Security ) have directed functional units to verify the clip recording the dangerous situation that occurred in the railway coffee street area (Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi).
Previously, a clip circulated on social media recorded a group of tourists sitting close to the tracks waiting to experience the feeling of a train passing by. As the Thong Nhat train approached, the train driver blew the whistle three times as a warning.
About the fourth carriage passed by, a foreign male tourist was busy using his phone to record a video when he suddenly slipped and fell towards the train. Fortunately, the surrounding tourists were able to pull him back, narrowly avoiding a tragic accident. Meanwhile, the table and drinking cups were knocked over.
As soon as the clip went viral, public opinion expressed outrage at the traffic safety situation in this area.
The railway coffee street, which is limited from the intersection of Le Duan - Nguyen Thai Hoc to the intersection of Tran Phu - Ly Nam De and extends more than 200m above ground, has become a coffee business, although it is not yet licensed. This is where locals and tourists often gather to check-in the moment the train passes by. However, this poses a high risk of traffic accidents, especially when coffee shops encroach on the railway safety corridor.
The Vietnam Railway Authority also sent a document to the Hanoi People's Committee requesting measures to prevent and disperse crowded gatherings of people filming, taking photos, and drinking coffee in the railway safety corridor; Hanging "danger zone" warning signs in various languages at the beginning of the Tran Phu, Nguyen Thai Hoc, Dien Bien Phu level crossings... to warn.
