US wants Ukraine deal in April

In an interview with Fox Corp. on March 22, US President Donald Trump said efforts are "under control" to prevent the conflict between Russia and Ukraine from escalating further. In an interview on Air Force One, Trump said the key to ending the war is "reasonable discussions" and having a good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.

“Shuttle diplomacy ” negotiations between the US, Russia, and Ukraine were launched on March 24.

US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff also praised President Putin's willingness to sit down at the negotiating table to end the conflict in Ukraine, NBC News reported yesterday. The Kremlin leader told Mr. Witkoff that he prayed for Mr. Trump when he heard about the assassination attempt on his presidential campaign last July. According to Mr. Witkoff, Mr. Putin said that after hearing about Mr. Trump's shooting, he went to the local church, met the priest there and prayed for Mr. Trump. The US will hold indirect talks with Russia and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia today. Ahead of the talks, the head of the Russian delegation, Senator Grigory Karasin, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said Moscow hopes to achieve "some progress," TASS reported. US Special Representative for Russia and Ukraine Keith Kellogg described the talks as "shuttle diplomacy" between hotel rooms arranged by the host country. Ukraine was the first to meet the US delegation as an intermediary. US officials then met with the Russian delegation led by Senator Karasin.

Before the negotiations were conducted in the Middle East, TASS quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry 's announcement yesterday that it had taken control of another village called Sribne in Donetsk. Ukraine has not commented on this information. On the same day, the Ukrainian Air Force also recorded that Russian forces launched a total of 147 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the night of March 22 and the morning of March 23 in Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Odessa, Donetsk and the capital Kyiv. Ukrainian air defense units shot down 97 Russian UAVs, while 25 UAVs failed to reach their targets. Moscow has not commented on the above information.

In another development, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said President Trump was right to ask European countries to take on a greater role in collective defense efforts, according to The New York Times yesterday.
