A man was found dead in a car that was swept away in Yamaguchi prefecture, while a landslide in Oita prefecture in Kyushu also swept away a house, local officials said.

Rescuers are also trying to find a 70-year-old man.

In Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, seven cars were submerged in water and one of the drivers was missing.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued warnings about the risk of landslides and flooding in low-lying areas as heavy rain is forecast to continue in areas from western to eastern Japan.
