Phone cabinets are equipped in classrooms at the Gifted High School (Ho Chi Minh City National University).

Under this regulation, nearly 2,000 students of this school at both campuses will not be allowed to use phones during class without the teacher's permission.

Today is the first day the school applies the above regulation and equips each classroom with a cabinet with 50 numbered compartments and corresponding keys. Students put their phones in the correct compartment according to their number during class and can take them back at the end of the period/class.

Mr. Tran Nam Dung, Vice Principal of Gifted High School, shared that this regulation only applies during class time when teachers do not allow students to use phones.

In classes where teachers allow students to use their phones to look up information, study, and teach, students are still allowed to use their phones. In addition, students are still allowed to use their phones during recess as needed.

According to Mr. Dung, phones distract students during class, reducing their ability to concentrate on their studies. Teachers can also be psychologically affected when they see students using phones during their lessons.

With this regulation, the school hopes to manage students' use of phones during class to help make learning more effective.

The vice principal said that this policy was supported by teachers and parents. Before promulgating it, the school consulted with the school's Parents' Association.

Previously, at the opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 school year at the Gifted High School, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Hai Quan, director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, expressed concern about today's students being "drowned" in their phones.

"Using phones to search for information for studying is good, but don't let phones silently turn students into prisoners of social networks and games.

This invisible prison can bury your youth, ambitions and aspirations. Use your phone less, avoid trivial temptations, and focus on extraordinary work," Associate Professor Dr. Vu Hai Quan advised his students.
