This information was just announced by Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City in a meeting, after merging the Departments of Education and Training of 3 provinces and cities: Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau.

Mr. Hieu requested the Student Affairs Department to research and advise on a proposed plan to not allow students to use cell phones during recess or duringeducational activities at school (except in cases where subject teachers allow it to perform tasks serving learning).

Along with not allowing students to use mobile phones, the Student Affairs Department is required to consult on plans to organize activities during recess to create conditions for students to connect and practice physical education and sports activities in the 2025-2026 school year.

Under the proposal being developed, students will only be allowed to use mobile phones when requested by a subject teacher for a lesson, and the use must take place under teacher supervision in the classroom. Outside of these special learning situations, students will not be allowed to use their phones in any space or time on campus.

Last school year, a number of schools in Ho Chi Minh City proactively banned students from using cell phones and received positive feedback from students, parents and teachers. Truong Chinh High School, Thanh Loc High School, Gifted High School (Ho Chi Minh City National University)... are the units that have tested the ban on students bringing and using cell phones during school time.

Initial results show that students participate more in group activities, their face-to-face communication skills improve significantly, and their distractions from learning are significantly reduced.
