The leader of the Department of Education and Training of Ha Tinh province said that due to the impact of storm No. 5, there are currently 666 schools allowing students to stay home to ensure safety.

According to the report of the Department of Education and Training of Ha Tinh province, storm No. 5 caused severe damage to 156 educational establishments in the area, with an estimated loss of more than 121 billion VND. At the preschool level, 52 schools suffered damage (estimated at 88.2 billion VND), 24 primary schools (3.5 billion VND), 22 secondary schools (7.2 billion VND), 44 high schools (19.3 billion VND) and 9 vocational education and continuing education centers (815 million VND).

As one of the schools devastated by typhoon No. 5, the leader of Hoa Lien Secondary School (Ha Tinh) said that although the school had made good preparations to prevent the storm, the storm was so strong that the roof of the two-story school was blown off.

The school had just built a roof last year at a cost of 400 million VND. After the storm, the entire roof was severely damaged. The school is working with local authorities to fix the damage so that students can return as soon as the new school year is near.

The storm also caused damage to many schools in Can Loc district (old). At Son Loc Secondary School, Son Loc commune (Ha Tinh province), storm No. 5 collapsed many rows of houses.

The leader of Son Loc Secondary School said that the storm and strong winds caused the school building including 8 subject practice rooms to collapse and the roofs of 3 teachers' rooms to be blown off. Furniture, books in the library, computers and televisions were severely damaged after the storm. The biggest difficulty is the funding to rebuild the building that was destroyed by the storm. The school is coordinating with the local authorities to find a solution.

In Nghe An , the whole province had 14 damaged schools, with roofs blown off in Than Linh, Vinh Loc, Van An, Nam Dan, Binh Minh, Quynh Chau, Quang Dong, Giai Lac, Vinh Tuong and Trung Loc. In addition, the whole province had 2,189 houses affected, of which 1,622 houses had roofs blown off, were severely damaged and 462 houses were deeply flooded.

Regarding health, three facilities in Than Linh, Hung Yen Nam and Bich Hao were severely damaged, disrupting medical examination and treatment, directly affecting the lives of thousands of people. According to statistics from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Nghe An province, the economic damage caused by storm No. 5 was about 846 billion VND.

In Thanh Hoa, two schools were directly affected: Thieu Duong Primary School was flooded; Nam Xuan Kindergarten had its roof blown off. The fence system at three other schools also collapsed with a total length of 33m, including: Thieu Do Primary School, Thieu Ly Secondary School and Tam Lu Kindergarten.

These damages occurred right before the new school year, forcing many localities to urgently fix the damage to ensure the progress of the opening ceremony. The government and parents were mobilized to support and implement the "four on-site" motto to quickly stabilize the facilities and ensure the safety of students.

The education sector of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh provinces has established many working groups to go to the grassroots to grasp the situation and directly direct the handling of consequences. All schools are required to arrange forces to be on duty, protect facilities, and transport teaching equipment to safe places.

Provinces are determined to complete repairs to facilities and ensure school safety so that the opening day of the 2025-2026 school year can take place as planned.
