Sixteen-year-old striker Rio Ngumoha became Liverpool's hero when he scored the decisive goal in the 100th minute to help the "Reds" to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Newcastle at St James' Park. This result continued the "Magpies"' winless streak against Liverpool to 18 matches in the tournament (D5, L13).

The match was played at a high tempo from the start, with fierce tackles from both sides. Liverpool's Ryan Gravenberch, who had just returned from suspension, was shown an early yellow card. Newcastle started brightly, creating a number of dangerous chances, but their goalkeeper Nick Pope was the first to show his talent in blocking a curling shot from Liverpool's Florian Wirtz.
The intensity of the match was pushed up, Newcastle's Anthony Gordon had three consecutive chances in front of the home team's goal but failed to succeed. It seemed that the "Magpies" were dominating, but unexpectedly Gravenberch launched a beautiful long-range shot from 30 meters away, opening the score for Liverpool in the 35th minute.
Things got even more difficult for the home side when Gordon was sent off after VAR determined he had made a dangerous tackle from behind on Virgil van Dijk in the third minute of first-half stoppage time.
Down to 10 men, Newcastle went into the second half hoping to hold on, but Liverpool doubled their lead within 20 seconds. Cody Gakpo passed the ball to Hugo Ekitike, who finished delicately into the bottom corner for Liverpool's third goal in two games.
Despite being two goals down and playing with one less man, Newcastle did not give up. In the 57th minute, Bruno Guimarães headed home a cross from Tino Livramento, reducing the score to 1-2. The Magpies continued to fight back strongly in the final minutes and surprisingly equalized in the 88th minute. William Osula took advantage of Pope's long pass and Dan Burn's assist to tap the ball past Alisson, scoring his second goal in the Premier League.
It seemed like the match would end with a deserved point for Newcastle, but drama ensued in the 10th minute of stoppage time. Ngumoha seized the opportunity from Mohamed Salah's low pass, the substitute player finished accurately into the far corner of the goal, bringing all three points to Liverpool in an emotional match.
