On the afternoon of June 28, the family of Mr. Duong Van Nhiem (Nam Binh ward, Ninh Binh city) handed over a rare Javan pangolin to the rangers of Cuc Phuong National Park.
The family of Mr. Duong Van Nhiem (Nam Binh ward, Ninh Binh city) voluntarily handed over the pangolin to the rangers of Cuc Phuong National Park.
According to Mr. Duong Van Nhiem, at around 8:00 p.m. on June 27, 2024, his family discovered a creature wandering into the family's production workshop. After investigating, Mr. Nhiem determined that this was a rare pangolin species, so he tried to lock it up and contacted the authorities to hand it over.
On the afternoon of June 28, he and his family directly brought this pangolin to the rangers of Cuc Phuong National Park (Nho Quan district).
After receiving the pangolin from Nhiem's family, the rangers handed it over to the staff of the Vietnam Wildlife Conservation Center (Cuc Phuong National Park) to check its health and take care of it. Through inspection, it was found that this was a rare Javan pangolin.
Pangolins belong to group IB as stipulated in Decree No. 06/2019/ND-CP, dated January 22, 2019 of the Government on management of endangered, precious and rare forest plants and animals and implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora; Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP, dated September 22, 2021 amending and supplementing a number of articles of Decree No. 06/2019/ND-CP. People who illegally buy and sell pangolins can be prosecuted for violating regulations on the protection of endangered, precious and rare animals; fined from 500 million VND to 2 billion VND or imprisoned from 1 year to 15 years. |
