At the center's launch event on the morning of June 11, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Gillian Bird shared that this is a concrete demonstration of Australia's commitment to supporting the science and innovation sector within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
The Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technology Centre (AVSTC) aims to develop 5G, 6G, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and cyber security. This is a cooperation activity between the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology and the University of Technology, Sydney.
At the event, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy said that Vietnam and Australia have built a close partnership in the fields of science, technology and innovation, with a focus on digital transformation and strategic technologies.
AVSTC aims to bring together experts from industry, academia and government to tackle challenges and seize opportunities from key technology areas such as 5G/6G, next-generation networks, AI, cybersecurity, data privacy, quantum technology and the digital future.
According to the Australian Embassy, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade provided initial funding of AUD 2.1 million to set up the centre. Technical equipment was provided by Nokia.
