At Children's Hospital 2, Ho Chi Minh City, the number of dengue fever cases in May 2025 increased 2.5 times compared to the same period last year.

What is worrying is that many people are still not fully aware of the severity of the disease, leading to late detection and treatment, causing the disease to rapidly worsen.

At the Intensive Care Unit for Infectious Diseases, Children's Hospital 2, in the past month, 4 serious cases were admitted, including 2 typical cases.

LNTT, 6 years old, living in Binh Duong , had a high fever at home but the family thought it was a mild illness so they only bought fever-reducing medicine for him to take. On the third day, T. started vomiting blood. He was taken to the hospital in a state of severe shock.

As for NBH, 12 years old, living in Binh Phuoc . The doctor at the lower level diagnosed the child with dengue fever and advised him to monitor. On the third day, the child was very tired, had a stomachache, and vomited continuously. The family took a bus for 2 and a half hours to take the child to Children's Hospital 2 for treatment.

Upon arrival, the baby was in shock, with severe liver damage and liver enzymes 100 times higher than normal.

Fortunately , both children received timely emergency care and are gradually recovering.

Children with high fever for more than 2 days, think of dengue fever and take the child to see a doctor soon.

Doctor Do Chau Viet - Head of the Intensive Care Unit, Children's Hospital 2 - noted that dengue fever can occur year-round, but increases significantly during the rainy season. If a child has a high fever for more than 2 days, parents should consider the risk of dengue fever and take the child to see a doctor soon.

During home monitoring, parents need to pay special attention to signs of worsening such as extreme fatigue, continuous vomiting, abdominal pain, unusual bleeding, etc.

When children show severe symptoms, they need to be taken to the nearest medical facility immediately for treatment and safe transfer.
