According to L'Équipe (France), Mbappe started feeling tired on June 14, when Real Madrid flew from Spain to Miami to participate in the tournament. The 26-year-old player suffered from dehydration and was later diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis, the cause of which is believed to be bacteria found in poultry meat.

Mbappe was hospitalised after the opening group game against Al Hilal and missed the next four games. He was given intravenous fluids and tests revealed that his condition was caused by a bacteria commonly found in unsanitary food.
Despite returning to action and scoring a spectacular bicycle kick in the quarter-final win over Dortmund, Mbappe’s fitness has yet to fully recover. There are still big questions about his ability to play in the semi-final against PSG at 2am on July 10 at MetLife Stadium (USA).
L'Équipe further revealed that the French striker has lost up to 6kg since the onset of the disease. For a professional athlete, such unplanned weight loss can seriously affect the ability to compete.
Real Madrid are really worried about the impact of the tight schedule on the players' fitness after the FIFA Club World Cup. They have sent a petition to La Liga to postpone the opening match against Osasuna (scheduled for August 19). According to current regulations, players are entitled to at least three weeks of rest before entering the pre-season, based on the agreement between La Liga and the Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE) signed in 2023.

If Real Madrid reach the FIFA Club World Cup final against Chelsea on July 13, they will have just over five weeks to recover and prepare for the domestic season. That is considered too short a time.
In addition to health issues, Mbappe is also entangled in troubles related to his former team PSG. L'Équipe revealed that he has just withdrawn his lawsuit related to the accusation of "mental harassment" from PSG after publicly announcing his intention not to renew his contract in the summer of 2023. At that time, PSG excluded him from the tour and forced him to train with a group of players who were not in the plan.
Mbappe once claimed he was “lofted” – a French term that refers to the practice of isolating a player and pushing them out of the starting lineup. Although he has withdrawn his lawsuit, Mbappe is still demanding the €55 million he claims PSG owes him, including unpaid wages and bonuses.
In contrast, PSG confirmed that Mbappe agreed to give up this money when leaving the club and is filing a counterclaim, demanding compensation of 98 million euros (84 million pounds).
With the controversy surrounding Mbappe, Real Madrid and PSG, tonight's match promises to be extremely fierce.
