Recently, Mazda has announced the launch date of the 9th generation of the CX-5 high-chassis vehicle line. Accordingly, the global launch event of the new generation Mazda CX-5 will be held on the morning of July 10, 2025, local time. At the same time, Mazda also released a series of "teaser" images of the 2026 CX-5. According to Mazda's announcement, the new CX-5 will have a sharper exterior design, a more spacious and neat interior with upgraded technology. In addition, the driving experience is described by the company as "more exciting and intuitive".
The "hint" images released by the company seem to match the car whose design was leaked not long ago. Through that, it can be seen that the car applies an evolutionary design language, not a complete makeover. The new Mazda CX-5 is expected to retain the overall proportions of the current version. However, the lines on the car have become more refined and sharper, inspired by its sibling, the Mazda CX-90. The highlight of the new generation Mazda CX-5 is the headlight cluster that curves into the grille, reminiscent of the style seen on the discontinued Mercedes-Benz EQC. Next is the wheel arches surrounded by unpainted plastic panels, creating a rugged and SUV-like appearance for the new Mazda CX-5. Behind the car appears the familiar "L" shaped headlight cluster, creating a similarity with the front LED daytime running lights. There are no interior photos of this C-segment SUV yet. However, the car will likely have an upgraded interior with materials and technology borrowed from Mazda's higher-end models. Users can expect better quality, a larger infotainment screen, and some design details reminiscent of the Mazda CX-90 inside this model.
Mazda has previously confirmed that the new CX-5 will get a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version developed entirely in-house. This version will introduce the new SkyActiv-Z petrol engine, promising improved performance and fuel economy. However, this new engine will only be available from late 2027, so the hybrid version will initially use the current powertrain before switching to the SkyActiv-Z.
