The British newspaper Mirror reported that the Premier League fined Man City £1 million (over VND35 billion) after the team started matches late nine different times last season, for a total of 18 minutes and 53 seconds.
Man City were found guilty of failing to provide a reasonable excuse for delays at both the start and half-time of nine matches in the 2024/25 season. Notably, the club were fined a total of £240,000 for the first four offences between October and December 2024.
However, as current Premier League regulations do not set a fixed penalty for subsequent offences after the initial one, an independent Commission has been set up to review and impose a corresponding penalty.
The Committee considers each case based on the severity, specific circumstances and repeatability of the violation, and then makes a decision on appropriate sanctions in the spirit of fairness and deterrence.
This is not the first time that coach Pep Guardiola's team has been fined for this error. Man City was accused of being involved in 22 matches in 2 seasons (2022-23 and 2023-24). Specifically, in the 2022-23 season, they violated 8 times, and in the 2023-24 season, they violated 15 times and the total fine amounted to 2.09 million pounds.
Man City have had three consecutive seasons of being fined for 31 violations of rule L.33, which reflects the strictness of the tournament organizers in ensuring discipline and punctuality.

In addition to the L.33 penalties, Man City are still being investigated for 130 alleged breaches of the Premier League's Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. These allegations relate to the understatement of revenue, operating costs and player contracts over several seasons.
However, the club's management has firmly denied all allegations and affirmed that they have always complied with financial regulations. The case is still under investigation and processing.
This is considered one of the most serious and complex investigations in Premier League history, which could significantly affect Man City's reputation and future if the allegations are confirmed.
