Although the storm has passed for more than a day, according to reporters' records on the morning of August 27, on many major roads such as Phan Dang Luu, Le Duan, Ho Tung Mau, Quang Trung, Tran Phu, Nguyen Viet Xuan... piles of trees and broken branches still lie across, blocking the sidewalks and roads.
In many small alleys, household waste and wet leaves after rain have not been collected yet, giving off an unpleasant smell. In some places, the drainage system is clogged by branches, leaves, and garbage, causing localized flooding.

As soon as the storm passed, Nghe An Urban Environment and Construction Joint Stock Company mobilized 600 workers and dozens of vehicles, including 16 compactors and 30 trucks, to carry out emergency cleanup in 6 wards of the old Vinh City area.

The company representative said: “The unit focused on clearing fallen trees on main roads to ensure traffic first, then handled the alleys. The amount of garbage after the storm was too large, on the first day after the storm (August 26), we collected more than 1,000 tons, a record so far. It is expected to take about another week to complete this entire workload.”

To facilitate the handling, the unit has arranged 3 collection points for green tree waste and 5 temporary collection points for household waste in the wards. However, the amount of waste generated after the storm is many times higher than usual, plus the sudden rain after the storm makes the waste wet, difficult to collect and move, many large trees have to spend time cutting into small pieces for easy removal.
“Many trucks have to travel continuously, while the streets are crowded, so it takes a lot of time, and it is also quite difficult to get garbage transport vehicles in and out of small alleys,” the company representative added.

Not only the environmental sanitation force, but also the local authorities, military units, police, union members, youth and local people also joined in supporting. In Thanh Vinh ward, dozens of police officers, soldiers and people joined in cutting branches, clearing fallen trees, and creating a path for traffic.
Mr. Dinh Nho Tai - Vice Chairman of Thanh Vinh Ward People's Committee said that in most of the streets in the ward, there were fallen trees, the volume that needed to be handled after the storm was very large, especially concentrated on main roads such as Quang Trung, Le Loi, Phan Chu Trinh, Nguyen Thai Hoc...

This morning, August 27, the entire militia and urban regulations team was mobilized to clear, open the way, and initially ensure traffic. By the afternoon of the same day, the ward continued to deploy 50 more people and 6 cars, mobilizing 10 specialized trucks to focus on clearing the main routes such as Le Hong Phong, Quang Trung, and Le Loi (National Highway 1A). At the same time, the front forces, mass organizations, and grassroots security forces were also deployed to participate, in order to speed up the clearance of the scene, and soon restore traffic order and urban landscape.
In Cua Lo ward, after storm No. 5 passed, thanks to the active support of 100 officers and soldiers of the Mobile Regiment of the Ministry of Public Security , 50 Mobile Police soldiers, Provincial Police; 80 officers and soldiers of the Ward Police and forces of the Ward Military Command, Cua Lo Port Border Guard Station... and forces of residential areas, they basically completed the cleaning of fallen trees, ensuring safety for people and vehicles since the morning of August 27.

To make the collection of waste and trees after the storm more effective, the authorities recommend that it be implemented in a synchronous manner: prioritizing the cleaning of main roads first to ensure traffic flow, then handling waste in small alleys; classifying waste right from the collection stage with trees, wood, soil and rocks separately, and household waste separately to facilitate transportation and treatment; arranging additional temporary collection points to avoid local congestion.

In addition, mobilizing local forces such as militia, youth union, residential groups to coordinate with environmental workers will help speed up the progress. More importantly, people need to proactively clean and collect garbage within their households, gather it in the right place, and join hands with the government so that the city can soon return to being green - clean - beautiful.

It can be seen that cleaning up garbage after a storm is not only a simple environmental sanitation task, but also contributes to ensuring traffic safety and limiting the risk of epidemics. With the drastic participation of the government, functional sectors and the cooperation of the community, it is expected that within a week, the remaining garbage will be basically handled, returning a clean and beautiful landscape to the city.
