Billiards match schedule on July 1: Dao Van Ly starts, Tran Quyet Chien goes abroad

Today (July 1), 3 Vietnamese players will take to the field in the third qualifying round of the Porto Billiards World Cup. Tran Quyet Chien and other top players have also left for Portugal.

The second qualifying round of the Porto 2024 Billiards World Cup took place from June 30 to the early morning of July 1, with four Vietnamese players competing: Nguyen Dinh Luan, Nguyen Chi Long, Nguyen Hoan Tat and Thon Viet Hoang Minh. Of which, Chi Long and Hoang Minh passed the second qualifying round to advance to the third qualifying round, where Dao Van Ly was waiting.

In the third qualifying round taking place this afternoon, July 1, Thon Viet Hoang Minh is in group J with Mikael Devogelaere (France) and Huub Wilkowski (Netherlands). Nguyen Chi Long is in group K with De Kruijf (Netherlands) and Atsushi Kiyota (Japan). Dao Van Ly is in group M with Marcos Morales (Spain) and De Bruijn (Netherlands).

All three Vietnamese players will take to the field at 6:30 p.m. (July 1, Vietnam time). In turn, Hoang Minh will meet Devogelaere, Chi Long will face De Kruijf, and Van Ly will face Morales. Depending on the result of the first round, the second round of the Vietnamese players will take place at: 9:30 p.m. or 0:30 a.m. (July 2, Vietnam time).

The third qualifying round of the Porto 2025 Billiards World Cup has 48 players competing, divided equally into 16 groups (3 players each), competing in a round-robin format with points and rankings, and a tie (with a draw). The top players in each group will advance to the fourth qualifying round.

Tran Quyet Chien departs

Last night (June 30), Tran Quyet Chien and the top 3-cushion carom players in Vietnam such as Tran Thanh Luc, Bao Phuong Vinh, and Chiem Hong Thai departed from Tan Son Nhat Airport (HCMC) to Portugal. The 4 players mentioned above were given special permission to compete from the main round (round of 32 players) of the 2025 Porto Billiards World Cup, which will start on the afternoon of July 3.

Notably, fate once again brought Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh into the same group in the round of 32. Accordingly, the two top players of Vietnamese 3-cushion carom fell into group D. The remaining two names of group D will be determined after the qualifying rounds end.

Chiem Hong Thai is in Group C with Eddy Merckx (Belgian, 14-time World Cup billiards champion) and Jose Miguel Soares (Portugal). Tran Thanh Luc is in Group E with Berkay Karakurt (Turkey).
