Tran Quyet Chien continues to show his talent in Europe

Tran Quyet Chien and Vietnamese players will continue to compete at the Porto Billiards World Cup 2025, from June 29 to July 5.

In the competition in Portugal, Vietnam has 10 3-cushion carom players participating, including: Tran Quyet Chien, Tran Thanh Luc, Bao Phuong Vinh, Chiem Hong Thai, Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu, Dao Van Ly, Nguyen Chi Long, Thon Viet Hoang Minh, Nguyen Hoan Tat and Nguyen Dinh Luan. Of which, 4 names were given special permission to compete from the main round (round of 32 players) thanks to their positions on the rankings of the World Carom Billiards Federation (UMB), namely Quyet Chien, Thanh Luc, Phuong Vinh and Hong Thai.

The tournament in Portugal is where Quyet Chien's beautiful memories are kept. At the 2023 Porto Billiards World Cup, Vietnam's No. 1 player was crowned champion, after defeating Egyptian athlete Sameh Sidhom (who had just lost to Quyet Chien in the semi-finals of the Ankara Billiards World Cup 2025). The achievement in Porto 2023 is the second title in Quyet Chien's collection of 4 Billiards World Cup championships up to now. In addition, the Porto Billiards World Cup 2023 is also where the talent Chiem Hong Thai first made his mark on the international arena, when the player born in 1999 won the bronze medal.

Positive signal of Tran Quyet Chien

At this time, Quyet Chien is still diligently searching for his first title in 2025. If in 2024, the Ha Tinh native was crowned in the first round of the season (World Cup billiards Bogota - Colombia 2024), then this year he is taking steps to approach the highest position.

The positive sign is that his performance is improving with each tournament. At the 2025 Bogota Billiards World Cup in March, he stopped at the round of 16. At the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Billiards World Cup in May at Nguyen Du Stadium (Ho Chi Minh City), he reached the semi-finals and lost to the current world number 1 Dick Jaspers (Netherlands). At the most recent World Cup Billiards tournament held in Ankara - Turkey in mid-June, he went all the way to the final. But in the championship match, he could not defeat the world's 3-cushion carom billiards icon Eddy Merckx (currently holding 14 World Cup Billiards championships). With what he has shown, Quyet Chien is still the leader of Vietnam's 3-cushion carom at international tournaments.
