After the end of the first half, when Benfica was temporarily leading Auckland City 1-0 thanks to Angel Di Maria's goal, the organizers announced that the match would be suspended due to weather reasons.
Specifically, heavy rain fell on the Inter & Co field, followed by lightning in the final minutes of the first half. According to safety regulations for outdoor sports in the US, the match can only continue if the lightning stops for at least 30 minutes.
During the delay, spectators are asked to leave the stands and seek shelter for safety. Stadium technicians will check the drainage system and the pitch to ensure the best playing conditions when the match resumes.

The match was stopped for 2 hours and 9 minutes before it could resume. And Benfica "fired" 5 more goals into Auckland City's net to end the match with a score of 6-0.
This is the fourth match at the 2025 Club World Cup to be interrupted by bad weather. Previously, Mamelodi Sundowns - Ulsan Hyundai, Salzburg - Pachuca, Palmeiras - Al Ahly were also suspended for similar reasons. However, none of the matches have been suspended for as long as Benfica's match against Auckland CIty.
The constant suspension of matches due to weather effects can cause concern for the players' mental and physical health.
