The plateau 300km from Hanoi has a sea of clouds, waterfalls, and bustling visitors.

Convenient travel distance with Hanoi - Lao Cai highway, fresh and cool air, summer temperature only about 20 degrees Celsius... are the reasons why Y Ty plateau has become a "hot escape" destination attracting tourists.

In early June, Mr. Pham Quang Tuyen (31 years old, freelance photographer, living in Hanoi ) had an experience trip to Y Ty plateau (Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province).

He chose to join a tour instead of traveling independently to explore Y Ty in a very different way. That is, participating in activities that he had never tried before, including hiking and trekking.

Mr. Tuyen explored the Y Ty plateau in early June. Although it was summer when he visited, the temperature here was only about 20 degrees Celsius.

If you come here from September to April next year, you can experience cloud hunting, and from August to October is the rice ripening season.

From Hanoi, Mr. Tuyen and his group of tourists departed at 6:30 p.m., traveling by bus. After nearly 7 hours, they arrived at a homestay and stayed overnight there.

Homestay is located at the foot of Lao Than mountain, 13km from Choan Thoen village center, surrounded by mountains.

“The accommodation is clean, cool, and serves delicious food, more than enough for an experiential trip,” said Mr. Tuyen.

According to the young guest, the distance from Hanoi to Y Ty is about 300km, including more than 250km of highway, so the travel is quite easy.

The section from Muong Hum (Bat Xat, Lao Cai) to Y Ty is about 30km long, but because the road is quite bad, it takes 1.5 hours to get there, which can easily make tourists feel tired and carsick.

On the first day, the whole group woke up early, went to the stream about 500m from the homestay to have breakfast, relax and take pictures. After that, they started hiking across the stream, through the forest, through the cardamom forest to reach the main waterfall.

During the trip, visitors are provided and fully equipped with hiking sticks, backpacks, gloves, hats, drinking water, etc. Mr. Tuyen feels that this hiking route is quite easy and not too strenuous.

“During this journey, what remained in my eyes was the true mountain forest space with lush green vegetation, occasional birdsong, and the sound of streams flowing, which was quite pleasant to the ears,” the 9X said.

At noon, the group reached the foot of the waterfall. Here, the members took the opportunity to cool off, rest, have lunch, and nap under large rocks. Lunch was prepared and cooked by local porters.

In the afternoon, the group continued to move to the valley, with green grass and clear lakes.

During his short time here, Mr. Tuyen kept shouting with joy because he was overwhelmed by the natural scenery that “exceeded his expectations”, with mountains and seas of clouds. In the distance, local people were herding cattle.

Mr. Tuyen (standing in the middle) and a group of tourists have dinner at the homestay.

At 4:00 p.m., the group moved back to the homestay, ate, rested, and regained strength to prepare for the next schedule of the new day.

“At the homestay, visitors can entertain themselves with archery or watch the sunset, take a walk around the area, and learn about the culture and life of the local people,” he said.

Located at an altitude of over 2,000m, Y Ty plateau (Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province) is almost covered with clouds all year round, with fresh, cool air.

On the second day, due to heavy rain, the group could not visit Choan Thoen park as planned.

Around noon, the weather cleared up, the members moved to Muong Hum market, took a walk around and enjoyed lunch with an attractive sturgeon hotpot.

In June, Y Ty plateau enters the flooding season, so visitors coming here at this time can admire the lush green scenery with different shades of light and dark.

In the afternoon, the group went to Dragon Waterfall, exploring the village nestled in the valley and the terraced fields next to the large dam.

“The road to Dragon Waterfall is quite bad, you have to have a local motorbike taxi take you there, but I found the scenery on both sides of the road very beautiful, with mountains, streams, waterfalls and terraced fields,” the photographer from Thai Binh recalled.

At the end of the trip, Mr. Tuyen admitted to making a big profit with a memory full of beautiful photos and a mind filled with the natural scenery of the Northwest in summer.

To have a memorable experience in Y Ty, the young man reminds tourists: Wear long pants when hiking in the forest; use sports shoes with good grip; prepare sunscreen, hat, sunglasses because it is quite sunny during the day...
