The two leaders shook hands and turned to the guard of honor. The military band, dressed in the symbolic uniforms of soldiers in the 19th century Peruvian independence army, played the national anthems of Vietnam and Peru.

At the end of the ceremony, President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra and President Luong Cuong entered the main hall of the Casa de Pizarro Presidential Palace to warmly greet and introduce officials from both countries present at the welcoming ceremony.

President Luong Cuong's official visit to Peru takes place on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (November 14, 1994 - November 14, 2024). This is an important milestone, reflecting the positive development of bilateral relations from the political-diplomatic to economic-trade fields, and is a historic opportunity and a driving force to further deepen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Over the past three decades, despite being geographically distant, the two countries have made significant strides in promoting political, diplomatic, economic, trade and investment relations over the years.

Senior leaders of the two sides regularly have bilateral meetings and contacts on the occasion of attending international conferences.

In addition, Vietnam and Peru have established bilateral dialogue mechanisms, such as the political consultation mechanism between the two countries at the Deputy Foreign Minister level, the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic Issues and Technical Cooperation at the Deputy Minister level, and signed many Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding on cooperation.

In multilateral forums, Vietnam and Peru have similarities such as exchanging support for candidates and being members of the United Nations, APEC Forum, Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC).

Regarding economic, trade and investment cooperation, Vietnam highly appreciates Peru's role and always considers Peru one of Vietnam's important partners and leading investment locations in Latin America.

Bilateral trade turnover between the two countries in 2023 will reach nearly 500 million USD and in the first 7 months of 2024 will reach nearly 300 million USD.

Viettel Military Telecommunications Group and Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group have two investment projects in Peru with a total capital of 1.24 billion USD.

Immediately after the official welcoming ceremony, President Luong Cuong and President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra had a private meeting and then led high-ranking delegations from the two countries to hold talks to discuss measures to consolidate the foundation of good political relations between the two countries, enhance the effectiveness of cooperation in potential areas, and aim to bring the relationship to a new height.

On the same morning, President Luong Cuong and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation laid wreaths at the Monument to National Heroes and Independence Ancestors in the capital Lima./.
