To implement Directive 20/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister, Lam Dong province has increased the dissemination of environmental protection laws, raising the sense of responsibility of agencies, organizations and individuals. The province has reviewed waste treatment areas, giving priority to Duc Trong, Bao Loc, Tien Thanh, Da Lat, Kien Duc... to implement treatment solutions that do not cause environmental pollution.
In Kien Duc commune, the pollution situation at the landfill is increasingly serious. Due to prolonged overload, waste is dumped haphazardly and burned directly outdoors, affecting the lives of nearby residents. According to the People's Committee of Kien Duc commune, in 2018, the government approved the project to renovate, upgrade and treat pollution at the Dak R'lap district landfill. The project to build a new landfill was approved with a total investment of nearly 59 billion VND and deployed on an area of over 18 hectares. The project started in November 2021 and was expected to be completed in 2022, but encountered problems in site clearance and slow capital allocation, so it had to be suspended until October 2024. The project will continue from November 2024 after all problems are resolved. However, so far, the project's progress is much slower than planned. According to Construction Investment Project Management Board No. 3, the unit will continue to urge contractors to speed up construction progress so that the landfill can be completed and put into operation soon.
In agricultural production, farmers have released a large amount of toxic waste into the environment from packaging, bottles, fertilizer jars, and pesticides. After use, these items are often thrown haphazardly on roads, gardens, ponds, lakes, and streams where water is taken for spraying. With a total agricultural production area of over 1,046,000 hectares, the amount of pesticides used annually in Lam Dong is about 5,000 - 7,000 tons. According to calculations, the amount of pesticide packaging released into the environment annually in Lam Dong is about 300 - 500 tons.
Faced with this reality, the agricultural sector and localities have increased inspections of the collection and treatment of pesticide packaging and crop by-products. Farmers are instructed to comply with regulations and not to arbitrarily bury, burn or dispose of pesticide packaging into ditches, rivers, streams, ponds or lakes to avoid pollution.
Since the beginning of the year, the whole province has collected and treated over 97.3% of hazardous waste; 87.18% of seriously polluted facilities have been treated; 88.28% of urban solid waste has been collected and treated; 70% of rural solid waste has been collected and treated; 87.5% of industrial parks and export processing zones in operation have centralized wastewater treatment systems that meet environmental standards.
According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, to ensure environmental sanitation, the relevant agencies have actively guided and organized the collection, transportation, and treatment of domestic solid waste and agricultural waste. At the same time, they have resolved difficulties and problems related to pricing of domestic solid waste treatment services and appraisal of collection and transportation service prices in the province. In recent times, the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has directed drastic and synchronous environmental protection work.
According to Member of the Provincial Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Le Trong Yen, localities and units need to strengthen inspection, supervision and strictly handle violations in the implementation of environmental protection work in production, business and services according to regulations. Especially in state management of environmental protection, mineral exploitation... to ensure the implementation of the Prime Minister 's Directive 20/CT-TTg to protect people's health.
