“Lost to Paradise” tells the story of the arduous fighting days on the Quang Tri battlefield in the summer of 1972, with the love story between a soldier and a young volunteer girl as the main plot. Author Doi Xuan Viet, born in 1945, originally from Quang Xuong district, Thanh Hoa, grew up in Hanoi and he enlisted in the army, participating in the Quang Tri campaign in 1972; so when writing this work, he wanted to share with readers that soldiers going to battle always carry within them the desire of youth, love of life, desire to contribute, work, fight to complete their missions, ready to sacrifice and endure hardships.

Through the beautiful love of two soldiers in the war, the work highlights the noble patriotism, the strong comradeship. Loyalty and loyalty are the noble qualities of a soldier, an important factor contributing to the victory of the war of national defense. From the author's experiences and through the story of the fierce war, the author affirms that friendship, comradeship and comradeship are the source of strength of our army.

At the same time, through the love story in the work, the author reflects the close relationship between two closely linked forces in the 21-year war of national defense against the US (1954-1975) of our people, namely the Vietnam People's Army, including the logistics force and the youth volunteer force, including a significant part of female youth volunteers - the girls who pioneered the way. These two forces, along with many other forces, made important contributions to the victory of Quang Tri in 1972, a decisive victory that promoted the signing of the Paris Agreement forcing the US to withdraw its troops from Vietnam.

Besides, the author also affirms that only love and the desire to live can heal the wounds of war. This is true not only in the great war to defend the country but also in peacetime, when we are building the country but never forget those who have fallen, who have sacrificed themselves for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

Author Doi Xuan Viet is a director and scriptwriter of many films and television shows; has received many prestigious awards for feature films such as “The woman playing with sand”, “I only have you”… and impressive scientific documentaries such as “Vietnam’s environment in the early 21st century”, “Migration season”, “Heritage trees and Vietnamese cultural identity”…
He is also the author of the books: "Passing Through the Sun" (2019), "I Only Have You" (2020), "Late Blooming Rhododendron" (2020), "The Legend of the Wonderful Girl" (2022), "Returning to the Origin" (2024) and most recently, "Lost in Paradise" (2025).
