Unforgettable milestone
At the end of 2024, Ha Tinh people were extremely excited to welcome and join in the atmosphere of two outstanding and meaningful cultural events held right in the homeland of Hong Mountain - La River. These are: Festival "Returning to the Vi and Giam region - Connecting the quintessence of heritage" and the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the birth of Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac (1724-2024).

The Vi and Giam Festival is held to celebrate the 10th anniversary (2014-2024) of the heritage being recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The festival has the participation of many provinces and cities across the country, highlighting the cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO. The festival is a summary, showing the achievements in the work of preserving and promoting the heritage that Ha Tinh has made. Currently, the whole province has nearly 200 Vi and Giam folk song clubs in all wards and communes.
Vi and Giam folk songs and other UNESCO-recognized heritages shine together at the Festival "Returning to Vi and Giam - Connecting the Quintessence of Heritage", organized by Ha Tinh province in December 2024.
The 300th Anniversary of the Birth of Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac was held on the occasion of UNESCO's resolution to organize a ceremony to honor and receive the certificate of recognition as a special national monument for Le Huu Trac's Tomb and Memorial House. The celebration shows the journey of inspiring the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values.
Prof. Dr. People's Physician Le Nam - former Director of Le Huu Trac National Burn Hospital recalls: "In the 1980s and 1990s, the tomb of the Great Physician was almost unknown. Now, thanks to the efforts of the province, all levels, sectors and individuals, the relic has become a national-scale project, attracting a large number of tourists."
Le Huu Trac's Tomb and Memorial House have been renovated and ranked as a special national monument by the Government .
Data from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism shows that: From the first relic, the tomb and temple of the great poet Nguyen Du, which was ranked at the national level in 1962 (recognized as a special national relic in 2012), to date, the whole province has had 694 relics ranked, including 3 special national relics, 92 national relics, hundreds of provincial relics; 2 celebrities honored by UNESCO (Nguyen Du and Le Huu Trac); 5 heritages recognized by UNESCO (ca tru; folk songs, Giam; Phuc Giang School Woodblocks; Hoang Hoa Su Trinh Do; Han Nom Documents of Truong Luu Village); 4 traditional festivals are national intangible heritages and dozens of folk festivals are restored and maintained annually.
Persistently preserving the spirit of heritage
Behind the numbers are the efforts of many generations of persistent preservation and promotion of cultural values. Along with the great contributions of cultural researchers (such as Vo Hong Huy, Thai Kim Dinh), writers, many artisans have truly been the guardians of the heritage soul. People's Artisan Tran Khanh Cam (Ky Anh commune) said: "In the 1960s, to collect an ancient Vi and Giam tune, I cycled dozens of kilometers for months to the upper Ky Anh region, living with the people to record, restore and spread it."
People's Artisan Nguyen Ban and People's Artisan Tran Khanh Cam are people who persistently preserve the cultural heritage of their homeland.
In the "land of singing" Nghi Xuan, People's Artist Nguyen Ban - when he was an officer of the Department of Culture - Information of Nghi Xuan district (old) in the years 1990-2000, spent a lot of time reviving Co Dam ca tru, Vi and Giam folk songs, Kieu tro... In the 1990s, this place was almost "empty" of folk singers, but now there are hundreds of Vi and Giam folk song clubs, 2 Ca Tru clubs. "At that time, if it was delayed for a few years, the people preserving Co Dam ca tru would be gone and the heritage would be lost as well" - Mr. Nguyen Ban recalled.
In addition to researchers and artisans, the cultural sector has also persistently surveyed, made records, restored, embellished, and expanded cultural spaces. Decades ago, Ha Tinh embarked on heritage conservation in poor conditions, with many structures degraded and encroached upon. However, with its core role, the cultural sector has both established records to rank relics and advocated for restoration and embellishment. The province has also focused on preserving intangible heritage: folk art, customs, and festivals. In addition to the budget, Ha Tinh stands out in mobilizing social resources to build and restore relics (an average of tens of billions of VND each year), while coordinating with organizations, businesses, and individuals to apply digital transformation, digitize relics, produce 3D models, online exhibitions, promotional clips, etc. to help heritage reach a wide public.
Besides researchers and artisans, cultural staff at all levels play an important role in surveying, building dossiers, and advising all levels and sectors on preserving and promoting heritage.
The movement of “All people unite to build a cultural life” associated with heritage preservation has also aroused the spirit of self-awareness of each citizen. Addresses such as: Nguyen Du relic site, Dong Loc crossroads, Huong Tich pagoda, Tran Phu General Secretary Memorial Site, Ha Huy Tap General Secretary Memorial Site… have fostered patriotism and national pride in each citizen.
Preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage is an important task that the cultural sector will continue to carry out through many programs and actions in the coming time. The sector will strive to complete the goals and tasks set out in Resolution No. 18-NQ/TU dated December 22, 2023 of the Provincial Party Committee on "Building and developing Ha Tinh culture and people in the new period". From there, continue to preserve heritage associated with sustainable development, considering this a "soft resource" to promote socio-economic development, improving people's lives.
Mr. Tran Xuan Luong - Deputy Director of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Tinh.
