On September 14, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Head of the Departmentof Education and Training of Quang Ngai city, said that the information that he received 30 million VND for a "running" position in grade 6 at Nguyen Nghiem Secondary School was slander.
Mr. Hung explained that according to the decision approving the enrollment plan for grade 6 in the 2024-2025 school year of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai city, Nguyen Nghiem Secondary School was assigned the enrollment target of 326 students for 8 classes.

This indicator is based on the number of 5th grade students in the 2023-2024 school year in Nguyen Nghiem ward.
The 2024-2025 school year is the first year that Quang Ngai city implements the policy that 5th grade students of a ward or commune will be admitted to 6th grade of the middle school in that ward or commune.
For some special cases such as families or parents from localities outside Quang Ngai city moving to reside or work in Quang Ngai city, the department will ask for the opinion of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai city to receive.
For Nguyen Nghiem Secondary School, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school recruited 325 students, 1 less than the approved target. This school did not accept any students from outside the school district.
According to Mr. Hung, the enrollment target for grade 6 in the 2024-2025 school year at Nguyen Nghiem Secondary School has not increased, and there are no grade 5 students transferring from other schools. So there cannot be a school run as reported on social media.
On September 3, some Facebook groups in Quang Ngai posted information: To get a place at Nguyen Nghiem Secondary School, parents must spend 30 million VND or more to the Head of the Department of Education and Training of Quang Ngai city.
This information was shared by many social network users and received many mixed comments.
According to Mr. Hung, the content posted on social media is slanderous and affects his personal reputation. On the other hand, this information also affects the education sector of Quang Ngai city.
Therefore, Mr. Hung reported to the leaders of Quang Ngai City People's Committee and requested the police to investigate and find the person who posted the slanderous news.
"The police have verified and requested some social networking sites to remove the shared information. Because the person who posted the information used a fake account, the police continue to investigate," Mr. Hung informed.
For many years, the enrollment of first grade classes at some schools in Nguyen Nghiem, Tran Hung Dao, Tran Phu, and Chanh Lo wards of the city has been quite "hot". Along with that is the information that many parents have to "run for schools".
Speaking to Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Tra Thanh Danh, Chairman of Quang Ngai City People's Committee, said he had received information about the incident.
According to Mr. Danh, this information affects the reputation of the education sector of Quang Ngai city. Therefore, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai city has directed the city Inspectorate to monitor and verify information about the incident.
"The city inspectorate will take measures within its authority to review the case. On that basis, the inspectorate will advise the city People's Committee to direct the handling," said Mr. Danh.
