In ancient Chinese feudal society, the fate of women was extremely low, so many people thought that entering the palace to become a palace maid was the best way to change their lives.

They believe that in the palace, the maids have light jobs with high salaries. Later, when they are old, the maids can ask to leave the palace to return to normal life.

In fact, the life of the palace maids living in the palace is so miserable that it is impossible to tell.

Women who want to enter the palace as palace maids must first go through a rigorous selection process. They are examined based on their appearance, body, body odor, and many other things before being selected.

In the palace, not only did they not have freedom, they also had to follow countless rules and regulations. If they made their master unhappy, they would be scolded and beaten. After all, palace maids were the group of people with the lowest status in the palace.

New palace maids were taught and trained in everything from walking, makeup, hair-combing, to eating and sleeping. Everything had strict rules. For example, during the Qing Dynasty, there was a rule that when palace maids slept, they were not allowed to face the sky, but were forced to lie on their sides with their legs bent, or to regularly read "nu xuan" or "nu giao kinh". All of these instructions came from the old palace maids.

The daily work of the palace maids is very hard, from early morning to late at night. Their important task is to serve the emperor and the concubines.

To satisfy the owner's need for a comfortable, luxurious life, their scope of work includes taking care of food, housing, clothing, and transportation.

Not only serving kings and concubines, newly-appointed palace maids also had to serve the older palace maids with all their daily personal tasks such as washing their faces, combing their hair, washing their feet, and bathing.

At night, the palace guards did not get a good night's sleep. They had to serve the eunuchs to build good relationships and avoid punishment.

They chose to have "real" relationships with eunuchs to fill the cold loneliness of the palace. The "real" relationship simply meant eating together, not sleeping together.

Palace maids still had to serve their masters every day, and serve eunuchs at night. If they were lucky enough to marry a good husband, otherwise they would be the place to vent their husbands' anger, dissatisfaction, and frustration. Throughout Chinese history, it seems that most palace maids who married eunuchs had tragic endings.
