Exploiting new flight methods at Noi Bai International Airport

(NLDO) - Applying new flight methods at Noi Bai airport ( Hanoi ) to increase operational efficiency and ensure flight safety.

From March 20, Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) will apply new flight methods at Noi Bai airport area.

Recognizing the strategic role of Noi Bai airport, VATM always gives top priority to research and implementation of flight methods applying modern technology. Noi Bai is the first airport in the country to research and design the PBN (Performance-Based Navigation) flight method system applying convergence point technology since 8 years ago, which has contributed to bringing positive effects in flight operations and exploitation and improving the exploitation capacity of Noi Bai airport.

To continue to meet the increasing demand for civil aviation operations and training, and to carry out military missions in the Noi Bai area, and to add satellite navigation approaches in addition to the current ILS precision approaches, VATM has directed the Northern Air Traffic Management Company and the Aeronautical Information Center to coordinate, study and design amendments and supplements to the existing flight method system in the Noi Bai airport area, and submit them to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam for approval.

After review and based on the results of calibration and evaluation flights, on January 20, 2025, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam issued a decision approving the above new flight methods.

In this new flight method adjustment, some PBN flight methods have been designed to be suitable for operation, some standard departure and arrival flight methods have been additionally designed to optimize flight operations and operations, separate the flow of aircraft departing and arriving at Noi Bai airport, especially the newly designed missed approach method for aircraft located outside the airport peak area, ensuring that re-entry aircraft do not cross the trajectory of aircraft approaching or taking off, helping operations at the airport not to be interrupted, especially in conditions of high flight density at Noi Bai.

To ensure the safe and effective implementation of the new flight method, and on time for the announcement of aviation news, VATM has directed the Northern Air Traffic Management Company to immediately deploy related work contents, detailing the implementation plan for each work item to ensure quality and progress. In particular, training in theoretical and practical flight methods on the SIM system for air traffic controllers, coordinating civil-military aviation with Air Force Regiment 927, officers, pilots and related navigators of Brigade 918, updating the database...

The implementation of new flight methods at Noi Bai is one of many activities that VATM is implementing to improve service quality, ensure safety, bring operational efficiency and contribute to the sustainable development of Vietnam's aviation industry.

In the future, the flight method system at Noi Bai airport in particular and at other airport areas across the country in general will continue to be researched, designed, adjusted and enhanced by VATM with modern technologies to meet the increasing flight operation needs of civil aviation while firmly ensuring national security and defense.
