Western tourists love kite surfing on Phu Quy island

Việt NamViệt Nam22/01/2024

Some people say that coastal people are often afraid of strong winds and angry with big waves. This is somewhat true for Phu Quy, because during the North wind season, the sea is rough, so the shipping routes often stop, and crops wither due to the salty air blowing in from the sea, especially in the North. However, in the eyes of international tourists, the waves of the North wind season are a "specialty". Therefore, every year, many Western tourists come to Phu Quy to spend the winter and play sea sports , especially kitesurfing, which they call kitesurfing or kiteboarding.

The writer of this article has heard that in the past, many islanders were very afraid when they saw foreign tourists. But now things are different, tourism has developed; Phu Quy is a famous destination in Binh Thuan province, so there are more foreign tourists coming to the island than before, and gradually they get used to it.

Like domestic tourists, Western tourists love the sea, they often choose motels and hotels by the sea to stay. Through contact, it is known that Long Vi restaurant is a familiar "meeting place" for many tourists when coming to the island. Some Russian friends shared that here has a beautiful sea view, far from residential areas so it is quite quiet. In addition to Russian tourists, each year Phu Quy island welcomes about 40 tourists from countries such as Switzerland, France, Germany, Australia, ... Some groups even bring their whole family to stay for several months to play surfing.

Last weekend afternoon we had the opportunity to watch kitesurfing. This season, walking along Long Hai beach from Van Lien Thanh to Mui Dau Gian, every day we see dozens of colorful kites soaring in the beautiful blue sky. Tourists just follow Le Hong Phong street, then stop at some roadside cafes or park at nearby houses and follow the small alleys leading to the sea, freely watching the kites.

Witnessing the aerial stunts, the wave riding and the laughter of international tourists, one can see the boldness and adventurousness of Westerners. Both men and women can play this sport, even the elderly can participate.

Phu Quy with its wild beauty, warm climate, clear blue water and ideal wind speed, for many years the pearl island has always been a destination for those who love sea sports. Coming to the island, visitors can not only play windsurfing but also combine it with tourism , explore the land and learn about the people, thereby creating more revenue for Phu Quy district to continue investing in the sustainable development of the local tourism industry.
