A giant leap forward
Although it used to be a difficult area for electricity (in 1992, only 35% of households had access to electricity), the electricity and energy industry in the coastal area of the province has now shown remarkable progress. In the period of 2021 - 2025 alone, this area will continue to have 6 more wind power plants with a total capacity of 234.2 MW invested in, completed and put into operation.
Thus, by mid-2025, there will be 47 power plants participating in power generation with a total capacity of approximately 6,480 MW and a designed power output of about 31 billion kWh/year. Including: 4 thermal power plants belonging to Vinh Tan Power Center (total capacity of 4,284 MW), 7 hydropower plants (819.5 MW), 35 renewable energy power plants (9 wind power plants and 26 solar power plants with a total capacity of 1,366.08 MW), 1 diesel power plant (10 MW) in Phu Quy Special Zone.
Regarding the transmission grid system, the distribution grid has also been invested in or renovated and upgraded by the electricity industry in recent years. Currently, there are 639.27 km of 500 kV lines, 1 Vinh Tan 500 kV transformer station with a capacity of 1,800 MVA, 301.15 km of 220 kV lines and 5 220 kV transformer stations with a capacity of 1,750 MVA, along with 724.59 km of 110 kV lines, 14 110 kV transformer stations with a total capacity of 1,305 MWA. At the same time, nearly 7,030 km of 22 kV medium voltage lines, more than 3,510 km of low voltage lines, 29,051 22/0.4 kV distribution transformer stations with a total capacity of 3,161.38 MVA are being operated here.
According to the industry and trade sector, the investment in the construction of power source and grid systems has met the electricity demand for production, business and people's daily life. In particular, Phu Quy Special Zone has ensured safe, continuous and stable power supply 24/24 hours...

Continue to promote development
The coastal area of the province is considered to have the highest potential for wind and solar energy in the country because the average number of wind and sunshine hours is higher than the average number of hours in the southern provinces and cities. Meanwhile, the high and stable wind speed and heat radiation also create favorable conditions for exploiting the energy industry, especially renewable energy - one of the main driving forces for local industrial development.
In the near future, the development of power source projects and grids in the coastal areas of the province will continue to be implemented according to the plan. In addition to synchronously deploying the transmission and distribution grid system, the locality is also interested in creating conditions for projects in the Son My gas-power project chain (Son My I, Son My II, Son My LNG Port Warehouse) to be deployed soon... It is known that according to the Power Plan VIII, the Plan to implement Power Plan VIII, and the Adjustment of Power Plan VIII approved by the Prime Minister , it is expected that by 2035, 51 more power source projects with a total capacity of nearly 8,600 MW will be developed in this area. In addition, with outstanding advantages in the field of offshore wind power, the locality also proposed that competent authorities prioritize the consideration and approval of projects to effectively exploit the potential...
With the total existing and planned power capacity mentioned above, when the investment is completed, it will enhance the response to the planning goals and socio -economic development plans of the locality in the new period.
Currently, with a total capacity of approximately 6,480 MW (accounting for about 8.6% of the total national power capacity) and a synchronously invested transmission and distribution grid system, the coastal area of the province not only makes an important contribution to the local socio-economic development but also contributes to ensuring electricity supply for the key economic region in the South as well as national energy security...
