Fisherman Nguyen Van Dung (57 years old, Thuan An ward) is happy because the logistics infrastructure for the marine industry is gradually being invested in and completed.

Infrastructure is the core

The city has implemented projects to build and upgrade fishing logistics facilities. Of which, the Thuan An Fishing Port Project combined with an anchorage and storm shelter area with a total investment of 215 billion VND has been completed, announced to open the port and handed over to the management unit, the Thuan An Fishing Port Management Board.

Thuan An fishing port ensures the scale for ships to dock and depart with a minimum capacity of 20,000 tons/year. In addition, units and localities also invest in building infrastructure and fishing logistics services to facilitate ships to dock, load and unload goods, preserve aquatic and seafood products, ensuring technical criteria according to EU regulations. At the same time, they also invest in a system of warehouses, freezers, ice factories, offices and other service areas, meeting the needs of anchoring and storm shelter for about 500 ships of all types with a length of 6m or more (capacity from 45 to 300 CV), to limit damage during the rainy and stormy season and develop sustainable fishing.

Fisherman Nguyen Van Dung (57 years old, resident of Thuan An ward) said: With the support of the locality, my family boldly upgraded the ship to a capacity of 440 CV for effective offshore fishing, creating stable jobs for about 10 crew members. Decades ago, fishermen struggled because the fishing infrastructure was poor, there was a lack of storm shelters, and every rainy and flood season, they had to "evacuate at will". Currently, the fishing shelters in Phu Hai (old) and Thuan An have been upgraded, dredged, and cleared, not only as fishing logistics service points for thousands of fishing boats in the area operating in fishing and trading aquatic and seafood when coming ashore, but also as safe shelters during natural disasters.

Recently, the City People's Committee has also reported to the Prime Minister, ministries and central branches on the additional funding for the project to build and upgrade fishery logistics service facilities with a budget of about 350 billion VND from the surplus of compensation from Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Company Limited. Accordingly, the city will invest in the project to improve the capacity of exploiting waterway traffic in the Tu Hien estuary area (now Vinh Loc commune); the project to upgrade the storm shelter anchorage area in Phu Thuan commune (now Thuan An ward); the project to dredge channels and waterways to serve ships entering the anchorage area and prevent floods to protect the aquaculture area along the lagoon in Phu Vang district (old).

With a favorable location, Hue has a coastline of about 128km with planned port areas that are very convenient for the transit of goods between provinces and cities in the region, with the two ends of the country and international trade, serving the security and defense strategy well, so the city is also focusing on completing the planning, calling for investment, investing in building infrastructure in accordance with the planning orientation. Along with that is the advantage of Chan May natural deep-water port, currently putting into use 3 wharves: No. 1, 2 and 3 with a capacity of 4.5 to 9 million tons/year depending on technology, loading and unloading capacity, with cargo ships of 50 - 70 thousand tons and larger, passenger ships of up to 3,500 passengers are opening up great opportunities for the development of the logistics transport service industry to serve the transport of goods for the city as well as neighboring provinces and cities, including neighboring countries in the East - West economic corridor.

Growth drivers

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, with the advantage of a long coastline and the Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon system, the largest in Southeast Asia, the city is taking solutions and focusing resources to exploit the maximum potential and advantages of the sea, making the marine economy one of the city's growth drivers in the future.

Accordingly, the city will focus on developing the maritime economy, investing heavily in the port system, logistics and taking advantage of its favorable location on the East-West economic corridor as well as the central location of the Central region to develop Chan May deep-water port into a major international transit port. The city will also focus on implementing berths 4 and 5 and prepare to continue implementing berths 6, 7 and 8 of Chan May port. This will be a new growth driver for the southern area of the city in the future when the berths are completed and put into use.

The orientation of building Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon area into an eco-tourism area of national and international stature, a driving force for the development of the Central Central Coast marine economic cluster associated with building the Hue - Da Nang City area into a strong marine economic center of high international stature of the country is also a major goal that the city is aiming for.

According to the Department of Construction, in the coming time, the city will continue to promote the work of establishing, appraising and completing the planning according to the issued plan. In particular, focusing on completing the specialized planning of technical infrastructure of the city directly under the Central Government; the general planning of the construction of the High-Tech Park; completing the planning to serve investment calling, socio-economic development and assigning the responsibility to relevant agencies and units to organize the review of previously approved urban planning and construction planning as a basis for considering and organizing the adjustment of approved planning, ensuring compliance with the general planning orientation of the city and meeting the development needs for the new stage.

At the same time, promote investment in socio-economic development projects according to approved planning orientations. Priority will be given to infrastructure projects in industrial parks, marine economic zones, high-tech zones; key projects such as Laguna Lang Co phase 2 (with Casino), phase 3; Kim Long Motor Hue production and assembly complex; Minh Vien international resort; urban and coastal tourism areas in the area to promote marine economic development...
