At around 6:00 p.m. on August 31, at the spillway area of Dut 1 village, Ia Hrung commune, Gia Lai province, a serious accident occurred due to flood water sweeping away people and vehicles.
At that time, Mr. Hran (born in 2006), residing in Ia Nueng village, Bien Ho commune, was driving a motorbike with license plate 71X1-105.21 carrying his wife, Da Wi (born in 2003), and son, Khiem (born in 2023), moving from Dut 1 village to Bui village. When passing through the spillway area, the whole family was swept away by floodwaters .
During the drifting process, Mr. Hran was able to save his son in time, but Ms. Da Wi was unfortunately swept away by the water and went missing.
Immediately after receiving the report from Ia Hrung Commune Police at 20:40 on the same day, the Fire Fighting and Rescue Team (Pleiku area), Department PC07 urgently deployed forces to the scene. The unit's leaders mobilized 1 rescue vehicle, 1 vehicle transport vehicle, 1 command vehicle and 16 officers and soldiers directly participating in the search and rescue work.
Due to heavy rain, strong currents and darkness, the search was forced to be suspended at 10:30 p.m. At 7 a.m. on September 1, the rescue team continued to deploy vehicles, equipment and 14 officers and soldiers to the scene, coordinating with the Ia Hrung Commune Police, Bien Ho Commune Police and many local people to organize the search.
After many hours of effort, at 10:15 a.m. the same day, the victim was found about 1.5 km from the accident site. Ms. Da Wi's body was handed over to the local authorities, commune police and family for funeral arrangements.
The incident is a warning about the dangers of spillway areas during the rainy season. Local authorities recommend that people strictly follow safety warnings and not travel through flooded areas or spillways during bad weather to avoid tragic accidents.
