Two young women were arrested in Tehran after posting a video of them dancing to celebrate the Persian New Year.

"Tehran prosecutors have ordered the arrest of two women who violated social norms by dancing in Tajrish," Iran's Tasnim news agency reported on March 9.

A video of two women shaking their hips near Tajrish Square, a popular gathering place for young people in the northern part of the Iranian capital, is going viral on social media.

Islamic law in Iran prohibits women from dancing with men or dancing alone in public.

The 22-year-old Kurdish woman died while being arrested by Tehran's morality police in September of that year on charges of violating the dress code.
